On the 4th The Hat hit a drive you can only dream of, it was well over 225yds as straight as a dye & landed in the centre of the green, leaving a sinkable putt for an eagle, now in all the time we have been playing, none of us has had such a golden opportunity of something so great, this was a chance in a lifetime, legendary status could be held for all time, after dinner speeches would feature it, the Gazette could of ran a back page spread, Arky could of sold pictures in the shop, it would of put Millers Barn golf course on the map, they would have named the 4th hole "The Hat Hole" after him, but as we all gathered on the edge of the green, willing him on, being careful not to put off but encourage a positive outcome, we held our breath, put our clubs down and got in a huddle, the players on the 3rd & 5th stopped playing & watched on in expected awe of him, then the moment come, he strode confidentley onto the green got in position had a practice stroke & then with all the grace of Albert from the five oaks nursing home on Clacton sea front he ........CHOKED! I would like to describe it as a "monumental herculian effort" but it wasnt, it was sh1te, at best it was pathetic & then for good measure he done it again from about three feet, and finally put it in for a par, oh we commiserated with him but after that his game just got worse, dont think he slept much that night & im sure his good lady has heard about it for the last 72 hours, but hey there is always next week, if he is out of rehab in time!!!
