Flight of the Concord

Concord Rangers v Lowestoft Town

The FA Carlsberg Vase

Sixth Round Proper

Thames Road, Concord Rangers FC

Concord Rangers boss Danny Scopes has revealed that he will not be following Juande Ramos' blueprint for cup success as he gets his side ready for Saturday's FA Vase Quarter Final with Lowestoft Town.

Ramos helped Tottenham lift the League Cup last weekend on the back of a strict dietary programme, but the Concord players have not been watching what they eat in the build-up to their big game.

"We're not going to do anything different in training this week," revealed Scopes.

"And we'll just have a few beers and a few pizzas afterwards."

Such preparations should not hide the fact that Scopes is in charge of a team with serious ambition. Besides reaching this stage of The Vase for the first time in their history, Concord are also chasing promotion from the Essex Senior League.

"We're an up and coming club," added Scopes.

"We're an Essex League club but we're trying to run it as professionally as possible. Everything is organised and geared to be successful."

"We're only a Semi Final away from playing in the best stadium in the world, but we're also trying to keep going in the league.

"The whole club is buzzing. It's the biggest game in our history. The money helps too - it's nice to be able to give something back to the Chairman."

Concord - who are based on Canvey Island - have become some people's favourites for this season's Vase, but Scopes disagrees.

"I wouldn't say we were," he added.

"There are some big football clubs left in it. If anything, I'd say we are the underdogs."
