Concord Res 2-1 Brentwood Res

Recommended Posts

Concord continued their run of good form with a well deserved win against a battling Brentwood side, who unlike their Canvey counterparts are flying high in the league table.

There were a some of changes from the last game with the inclusion of former Leyton Orient and AFC Hornchurch player Greg Tiffin, and debuts for Paul Oliver and Danny Stanley in place of the absent Luke Wilson, and the injured Ash Knott. 16 year old 'keeper Jack Sneefe will have done his chances of a regular spot no harm at all with an assured and mature display belying his youth and inexperience. Mark Baptist skippered the side in the absence of Sean Stannard.

Concord opened the scoring early on, Matt Crumbie flicking on to Mike Hood who took a touch then fired a speculative volley from 25 yards, which dipped over the Brentwood keeper and into the net to register his first goal for the club.

Concord continued their dominance, with Greg Tiffin pulling the strings in midfield, and wide players Jamie Harvey and Sam 'Tiz' Taylor particularly impressive.

Brentwood were looking for the lond diagonals to set free the pacy front pairing, but to no avail, both full backs, just 16 years of age stuck to their tasks well, with both centre halves dominating their aerial battles.

Half Time 1-0

The second half started much the same, with Concord playing some neat football, and efforts on goal from Brentwood being dealt with comfortably by young Sneefe, possibly the brightest young goalkeeping prospect at Thames Road since a certain Dale Brightley....

The first change came on the hour, another 16 year old, Brandon replacing the tiring Hood.

Brentwood were starting to find their feet and evetually drew level, Concord failed to clear their lines, and a Sky Blue shirt lashed the ball home from a matter of 2 yards.

The Brentwoo number 4 did provide the comedy moment of the afternoon by contriving to hit the post from 1 yard, with the 'keeper already grounded and an open goal to aim at, this definitely lifted the spirits of the Concor Management, who began to realise the tru skill level of their opposition.

Young full back Kieran made way for Brett Cranfield with 10 minutes to go, another impressive game from the right back, again with time on his side at just 16.

Concord have shown a real resilience in recent weeks, and with 2 minutes to go, Jamie Harvey whipped a superb ball across the face of goal, and Sam Taylor arrived at just the right time to volley home at the back post, a shot not even his uncle Stuart would have stopped.

So 2-1 it finished, the 3rd win on the spin for a fast improving Concord side, who now travel to Heybridge on Wednesday night, where they will look to continue their current run.
