St Georges Day !

Recommended Posts

Here's a conundrum for you all !

Today is St George's Day - The day when the white flag with the red cross should be proudly displayed. Now, why is it that we English, (if indeed, you are English), don't really push the boat out ??

A few weeks ago was Paddy's Day, (St Patrick's Day). Our local watering hole, (in deepest Surrey), was festooned with green and black, with a well known brewer offering prizes such as hats and scarves etc for all whose who could drink pints of the frothy black liquid at discounted prices.

I understand that nothing special will be forthcoming at the said boozer today !!

Strange, ain't it ??

Forget your politics its because the labour party have always branded anyone showing the flag of St George as a little islander

You can be Welsh,Irish or even a sweaty and mostly you can be British but never English

Go back to the last census and they asked the question are you ethnic? or Welsh,Scot,Irish,British or other, The word English never appeared on the document

Their fervent desire is that the Empire is considered 100% an evil word and we all become good little Euro!s

Whilst on issues concerning OUR nation you may have noticed our Tony has suggested a president of Europe with all nations handing over foreign policy and control of their armed forces.

Just as a counter suggestion I propose we hand over to the Euro!s our NHS our Transport systems our Education and Pension rights whilst retaining foreign policy and control of our armed forces

Just a little Lass I hate to be considered racist because I am English and proud to be so (I hate racist)

I hate the thought of Blair giving away our birthright in fulfilling his own ambitions

Most of all I hate the control freak labour party who have always told what is best for me?

But most of all I hate to see the increasing numbers in the tax and NI column on my salary slip when nothing other than the welfare of MPs is improving

Have a drink on me Lass for England, St George and freedom of thought

I work in a very specialised field of mental health. . . trying to assist people with a variety of diagnosis access education, training or work. (Used to be a Careers Adviser). Maybe it makes me notice things more. Doesn't mean that I'm any good though!!

My memory is awful. . . comes with age I think. I was cheating, I'd just read your remarks re 'ricay'!

Mmm specialist mental health could be you attend so many non-league games as practise in diagnostic research

The Canvey side (on the playing side)has at least one Bsc Director of coaching one other degree!d lecturer and a school teacher whilst I feel certain there are others in such roles that I am unaware of

I always remember the only career!s advisor I ever met and she attempted to convince me to become a chef

You really cannot know how far wrong that assesment was

Have a great week-end

Great week-end? Pabird it's only Thursday. Don't you work Fridays down there?

I don't have much faith in Careers Advisers either (except me of course.) The only advice I got was to become a teacher or go into office work. My first job was in construction!!!

At work now and Friday just thought to say H.A.G.W

Down here of course we all spend Fridays in the pub drinking brandy and champers getting ready to retire to our week-end retreat second homes

Not withstanding trips to various bountifully fitted out non-league clubs for a couple of hours of superb entertainment mixing with societies best

Sunday of course very little time left after three visits to the little country-side church we like to call our own

Somewhat similar to your own weekend I assume? still into wellie throwing? and the Hare coursing?

PS Ma and Pa now resident in Kettering (one home) and just to show Im only at the jest my Fathers family all from the border regions

It was great during the world cup here in EN3. Mrs R and I had our flag hanging outside the house, as did the people across the road. We also decorated the car. Further up the road were a couple of Turkish flags and the whole neighbourhood looked really colourful.

I can see one English flag flying in my road at the moment, so at least someone celebrated St George's day.

Talking of which, when I was at Fleecefield Primary School in the 1960's the four houses were named after the four Patron Saints of the British Isles (George, Patrick, Andrew and David). I was in St George's and ended up as House Captain - very proud I was too! (Do they still have houses in schools?)

Well ! I certainly started something !

I must admit I visited said local hostelry last night, purely to watch the Reds game against the Spanish. (Europe again). The result says it all

Not one flag and St George's Day wasn't mentioned once.

I rest my case !

Pabird's right...we are all being brainwashed into thinking that we're 'European'....wont work with me of course 'cos I sussed 'Our Tone' out years ago and his ghastly grabbing missus is a national disgrace....

how did we end up with these two in Downing street........search me...I never voted for 'em.... George and Bloody Mildred....

I have a very good friend in Madrid who owns a restaurant across the road from our home there....over the last seven or eight years we've turned it into a glorious shrine to both Man U (no I'm not a Man U fan but my Spanish friends are) and Real Madrid...when we go over for the odd weekend we always take another couple of Man U memorabilia items and he stocks up with similar Real Madrid stuff....we're nearly out of space.....

pride of place...side by side.....

the Spanish National flag signed by the Spanish National Team....and...the cross of St George signed by the English National Team......best day to be in this place......St Georges day............mostly Spanish locals (with the odd ex-pat slung in for political correctness).......a complete mad house and I missed it this year but it was a riot in there...brilliant.....

now then.......who found a pub or a restaurant of similar persuasion on the said day....I bloody well couldn't.....

'Our Tone' apparently has the EC flag proudly draped behind his desk at No 10......you see Europe's bigger than Britain and 'Our Tone' likes a bit of 'Grandeur' does he not.....personally I think Tony Blair is in Australia and Peter Foster is in Downing Street......

nothing would surprise me......anyway....

I am seriously considering moving to Baghdad Central......apparently its quite safe there now and non league football clubs are ten a penny......!!....oh by the way....apperently its possible to fly the cross of St George there as well......!!!
