Royston Town FC Attempt New Record

Recommended Posts

Royston Town FC will this Saturday be trying to beat their biggest ever league attendance of 876 v Aldershot Town in the 1980's.

The home game versus Buckingham Athletic on Saturday 18th April will also see representatives of the SSMFL present the Divison One Championship Trophy to the team at the end of the game.

The game has been advertised on local radio stations, in all local newspapers and fliers have been distributed all over Royston and in all High Street shops to promote the game.

The first team players will also take the youth set up age groups ( 7-16 year olds )for organised training sessions before the fixture with the youngsters then attending the big game.

It is hopefull a new record attendance will be set and to help acheive this admittance prices have been slashed to

I can't see it happening but good luck in attempting the record on Saturday, anyway I thought that landmark was set in the 1993/1994 season and not during the 80's.

So nearly right Rhodes -it was actually 92/93. The same 800 or so Shots fans came to Hertford too!

Good luck to Royston on the attempt.

The same Aldershot fans also came to Ruislip Manor on a Monday night in 1994-95 season. Being a Monday there was very little other football on anywhere in the country (including professional) so its possible that the 700+ crowd we got that night was the highest attendance for a game of football in England that night.

Congratulations to Royston Town for just missing out on the record by 55, a very brave attempt:

I think Haringey hold the gate record for the SSMFL. Its at least 7 foot tall and bejewelled in barbed wire. A fine specimen.
