Sheerwater vs Knaphill To Be Replayed

Recommended Posts

Combined Counties League Officials have confirmed that following an appeal by official's of Sheerwater Football Club, the league fixture which Knaphill won 3-2 albeit in bizarre circumstances last Wednesday 22nd April will be replayed.

The incident which involved the referee ruling out a Sheerwater penalty which they converted, when a player encrouched into the penalty area and the match official awarding the Knappers an in direct free kick caused mass protest from Sheerwater hence there reason for demanding a replay.

Also during that game Knaphill's Chris Fox was sent off for two bookable offences which the club will now insist that this be wiped of the records and allow Chris Fox free to continue playing his football without a possible suspension forthcoming.

Below is a email letter received from the league confirming there decision on Monday night.

Dear Secretary,

At the management committee meeting held tonight, the match between your clubs on the 22nd April 2009 where the referee failed to apply the laws of the game was discussed. The following decision was reached taking into account recent FA decisions made against this league and in other competitions and the position of the promotion position

That might be the case but considering 'appealing' seems to be the in thing these days i'm sure they will put there case forward.

How ironic it might be if the Knappers go to Sheerwater to win the title at one of there local rivals! Things just continue to get interesting at the top of Division 1.

The following decision was reached taking into account recent FA decisions made against this league and in other competitions and the position of the promotion positions in Division 1:

The match will be replayed on a date set by the fixtures secretary.

The cost of the officials (for the replay) will be paid by the league.

I would say every match official will be looking over there shoulder from now on!

Teffers,

You are correct in your advice. The Surrey FA has confirmed to Knaphill that all bookings and the sending off will still stand. I am sure Knaphill will abide by the decisions taken by the CCL and Surrey FA without any dissent. A date has yet to be agreed for the fixture, although the 6th of May has appeared on the Sheerwater website as the date for the game to be replayed.

Just received from the CCL:

'The re-arranged match between Sheerwater & Knaphill will take place on Wed 6 May. Kick-off will be 7.30 p.m. and it will be played at Woking FC.'

Interesting!

After consideration and discussion with their legal advisers, Knaphill are today initiating legal proceedings against West Ham United as they seek substantial compensation for having to replay their fixture against Sheerwater.
