A report on this one from another's Forum:

Molten Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division

Biggleswade United 2 Aylesbury United 2 (3.05pm)

Admission £5

Programme free with admission

Attendance 80 (h/c)

Having to work till 1pm scuppered my original choice of the Vase game at Herne Bay. The new plan was to do a bracketed tick at Hayes Gate (game was actually postponed) but arrived at the Jct on the M25 at 1.30pm so decided to push on for Biggleswade instead.

My previous visit to Biggleswade was to see Town virtually 10 years ago to the day (23/01/01) over the hedge. United were at home that night but I decided to watch the higher club. 10 years later and Town and the hedge have gone (although three of the four floodlight pylons remain!) to be replaced by an ugly 8 foot corrugated fence all around the ground, I preferred the hedge! Ground is very easy to find sitting just off the A1, you pass Town's new ground on the A1 although there is no direct access so you have to go through the town to reach it.

Game kicked off at 3.05pm & we had an 18 minute half time!!

As for the game itself, the first half was shockingly dull but things got much better in the 2nd half with the angry & foul mouthed visitors grabbing a deserved point with a laughable penalty award late on. Keeper clatters in to forward because he's out of his area and can't jump for the ball to catch, ref & linesman decide it's in the area under pressure from the visitors and they score from the 3rd attempt on the rebound.

It's strange watching Aylesbury play at this level having first seen them as a kid during their conference seaosn in the late 80's and then several times in the Ryman League Premier Division. They have managed to keep some of their more 'interesting' fans from those heady days and they made up the majority of the crowd.

3 more to go in the top two divisions (barring reserves and groundshares)

Yes, I wonder whether both Club's would take being drawn against each other on Monday so one SSML Club will be in the Quarter Final or take the gamble of both getting decent draws in the Fifth Round, preferably at Creasey Park and Pancake Lane respectively

I don't reckon that either of them has even thought about being drawn against each other so as to guarantee one SSML club in the QF.

looking at the teams left in the competition an all SSML tie looks the best bet.......well done and best of luck to both teams in next round

Leiston and Rye United both knocked out fellow SSML teams in Chalfont St Peter and Royston so would probably want to avoid them, Whitley Bay have a good pedigree in this competition and an away game there would be like a long weekend, so would guess UCL side Long Buckby, although riding high in the league would be a good tie for either Dunstable or Leverstock, or as you say an all SSML game with a guarentee of one in the Quarter Final's.

No doubt when Rhodes is asked as special guest to make the draw from Soho Square all will be revealed haha.

Went there with Biggs Town for a qf tie..............great weekend, except for result

also Spennymoor and Dunston are riding high in this league but Billingham are struggling atm....prob strongest step 5 league in country though

Whatever the outcome for both sides guess along the way the pennies earnt will be much appreciated by both clubs, especially Dunstable given the ground improvements they have going on at the moment.

Lee....how would you view your game v Amersham yesterday, was it a point gained or 2 lost?

If you can turn the draws into wins then you'll be fine, still think WGC and Stony, even with their ground grading situation look the likely of the 2 to drop down, but then anything is possible I guess.

Have heard that Risborough who currently occupy 2nd spot in Division 2 have gained a new 20 year lease on their ground and have applied for promotion, which I take would mean having the appropiate floodlighting in place must be ongoing, if this is the case then not good news for Winslow who are trailing at the moment in 6th spot 5 points behind them.

Saying that we ain't there yet.....have to make sure that cup matches we are involved in don't distract our focus on the league.

Going by their narrow win at Herne Bay yesterday I don't think Leverstock Green or Dunstable Town would have a lot to be afraid of if drawn at home:

HERNE BAY [0] 1 WHITLEY BAY [0] 2.ATTENDANCE 655. ADMISSION £6 or £3 concessions.PROGRAMME £2 An interesting ground with covered terrace behind both goals. A good seating stand on the halfway with 3 rows of seats and opposite a building for directors and guests which also has seats for the substitutes and coaches. This building also has the dressing rooms.A good souvenir shop with plenty of programmes was also doing brisk buisness.A good end to end game with Whitley Bay just edging it. Paul Robinson scored with a good goal [48 mins] for Whitley Bay, only for Herne Bay to equalise in the 50th minute through Tom Bryant. With the match heading for extra time Paul Chow scored the winner to send the Whitley Bay supporters dreaming of a third final victory.

Spot on Rhodes....Whitley Bay have only won the competition for the last 2 seasons and beat AFC Liverpool 7-1 in previous round.

Probably one of the weakest teams left. coffee%20(2).gif

F.A. Vase Fourth Round

2 0 Dunstable Town v Willand Rovers

A report on this one from another's Forum:

FA Vase - Dunstable Town 2 Willand Rovers 0 - Attendance approx 150 - Admission £6 - Programme £1

Another one on the FA Vase trail today, and this ground has changed completely since I was last here around 6 years ago. Now there's a small stand on one side of the pitch, and a stand being built opposite with just low standing elsewhere.

Dunstable took the lead with a decent finish from Jonathan Cooper late in the first half, after Willand had looked the better side in the opening stages. Both sides were reduced to ten men in the second half - Willand's number 4, Ben Mammola, first for two fouls, and then Nathan Frater also for two yellows, the second one for trying to block a free kick when not 10 yards away. Willand pushed forward looking for the equaliser, but conceeded the second just before the end of the regulation 90 mins with a Graeme Buchanan shot that took a wicked deflection.

Strange fact - I've seen around 10 FA Vase matches over the past two years, and almost every match has seen at least one red card.

As it happens, I've enjoyed them all as it's the one FA cup tournament that all clubs want to win and don't put reserves in to devalue the competition.

Lots of good info again Rhodes, though you must have been disappointed with the Tring Corinthians result yesterday as you had it on good authority that they would have the beating of Padbury.

Just wondered how you consoled yourself last night Cliff?
