Happy Christmas and a better New Year for us all I hope

Loosely - What will you be doing this year, will you be seeing Darter out of interest as she seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth, give her my regards if you see her

I was born Catholic, but even I can see sense with what Alan said. It's become hi-jacked, and sometimes I do wonder if the meaning of Christmas is still relevant. God help us if Diwali and Yom Kippur are ever commercialised!

Whether or not you believe in the story of the Nativity, this time of year should be a time to remember those less fortunate and to lend a helping hand to those in real need.

Until the New Year, farewell from the Gloucester shire and here is a message from the son of God himself....

IT'S CLIFF-MAS TIME!

It seems to me that Christmas has become so commercialised that parents feel almost obliged to spend money they don't have on children that are more materialistic than my generation ever were.

I have a mate that works every hour that god sent to support his family, and last year his ten year old son told him he cant love him as much as his friends dads because he cant afford to buy him the latest mobile phone or designer clothes. He is absolutely dreading Christmas this year, as are a number of my pensioner friends who now can no longer afford to spend the same amount of money on presents thanks to the rising cost of living.

That's the parents fault

Not really, it must extremely difficult to tell a kid thats to young to understand that they cant have everything their mates take for granted. I know of kids that have been bullied because they don't have as much material things as their peers. Children are very impressionable and can be very cruel to anyone thats unable to conform to their standards.

I remember when my kids were young I said I was thinking of buying a Lada or a Skoda. They all said they would rather be kidnapped than be picked up from school in either of those cars. Still not sure if they was joking.

What do you mean 'a better new year', there won't ever be a better year than 2012!
