Suburban League Cup - 1st Round, 1st leg

Ashford  5  Berkhamsted  0

Ashford’s Suburban League side beat Berkhamsted Reserves on Wednesday evening by five goals to nil in a 1st Round, 1st leg tie of the League Cup, which should give them a solid cushion when they make the return trip to Berkhamsted.

The visitors actually started well and it looked anything but an easy game at first but, to coin a phrase, they couldn’t shoot for toffee, unlike Ashford on this occasion, who made their chances count, none more than Joe Lynch, who knocked in an incredible four goals to add to his season’s tally.   He is looking deadly when he gets a sight of goal and now has ten to his name already this season and is knocking on the 1st Team door.  Last night’s other goal came from Billy Brennan, his first for the club.

There was no doubt that Ashford deserved to win this match but two late goals gave the scoreline a look that maybe Berkhamsted did not deserve but it is good to see the Suburban side playing good football at the moment and certainly doing their bit to give 1st Team manager Paul Burgess a number of options.

The team go to Frimley Green Reserves on Saturday in the league.
