That's a very interesting draw isn't it and only one home tie again for the five SSML Club's, here is the draw in full:

I wonder who Lee Hawkes and Ampthill Town's preference is between Eastern Counties League Division One North Mulbarton Wanderers and United Counties League Premier Division Cogenhoe United who have put Amersham Town and Harpenden Town to the sword in earlier rounds. Surely it has to be the Step Six Club who themselves surprisingly beat Newport Pagnell Town 4-0 in a First Round tie however The Swans were very much off colour that day and found themselves 3-0 down at the break with no way back especially when substitute Matt Cruse saw red, they also faced an inspired young goalkeeper in Mulbarton Wanderers Tom Wright who has single handedly kept numerous clean sheets this season:

Ampthill Town will travel to Mulbarton Wanderers next Saturday and it will be an interesting visit going by this groundhoppers brief report from another Forum:

MULBARTON [2] 5 COGENHOE UNITED [O] 0 FA Vase 2. £6/£3 No programme.Att; About 130. Held up for about 20 minutes on the M6 after a bad accident on the north carriageway. Still had time to watch the opening 25 minutes of the Wymondham Town v Yelverton Norfolk Senior Cup game . The home side were leading 1-0 when we left where there was no admission but programmes £1 each were on sale. The players get changed in the village hall and walk through the car park at Mulbarton. Small stand with 2 rows of seats and standing at the back which was useful when the rain arrived midway through the first half. Next to this is the tea bar. No other cover with just a barrier around the pitch. In the car park was a double decker bus which sold refreshments. One sided game with the visitors doing little attacking. Stopped at Cambridge services on the way back and home for 8-15.

Hadley v Colney Heath

I gather that Hadley are seeking guidance from the FA as to whether Saturday's tie can still go ahead. The sides have met twice in the FA Vase previously, in 2010/11 Colney Heath won a Second Qualifying Round tie at the Recreation Ground 4-1 after extra time and in 2017/18 they met again at the same stage of the competition with Colney Heath winning a replay 3-0 after a pulsating 5-5 draw after extra time at Brickfield Lane.

Message to all Amps fans - Thank you for your tremendous support this year but due to govt. restrictions on Tier 3 we must advise you to NOT travel to our FA Vase match v Mulburton Wanderers this weekend. We look forward to seeing you on 2nd Jan for our match v Stotfold:

Saturday’s FA Vase match against Colney Heath is now sold out as we have reached the 150 capacity. The match referee has passed the initial pitch inspection  but there will be a further pitch inspection before the match if we get any more rain:

The boys make another journey to Norfolk to face Fakenham Town FC in the FA Vase third round! Due to new government guidelines we must advise our fans to not make the journey to the game:

Strange that Karen didn't put the FA Vase results up yesterday evening but that must have been due to the disappointment that only one of our Club's made it through:

A groundhopper from another Forum was at Brickfield Lane, Colney Heath weren't exactly Germany in Turin in 1990 with their penalties were they:

FA Vase Third Round - Hadley 0 Colney Heath 0 (Hadley won 4-1 on penalties) - Admission £7 - Programme £2 - Attendance 150
The move to tier 3 meant that trips to either Radford or US Portsmouth were put away for another day, so earlier in the week, I secured a ticket for this tie and just as well that I did with it being Hadley’s first ever sell out.
The match between sides that used to meet regularly in the league was full blooded and, at times, looked like one dodgy challenge from boiling over. An early Colney Heath elbow was ignored by the referee and when he then turned down a pretty nailed on handball in the CH area, the home bench and fans vented their anger. The bookings count reached 7 and both managers also saw yellow. My thought was that the match wouldn’t end up with 22 players on the pitch, but somehow it did. Chances were at a premium, although Hadley had made the better opportunities to score in open play but it was on to penalties and fair to say that Colney Heath’s Jay Lovell and Jack Woods, who both missed the target, were the culprits before Ed Davis made no mistake to end one of the shorter shoot outs you’ll ever see.
Very well organised by Hadley who I guess had never had an all ticket match to deal with and they had tweeted earlier in the week that they could have sold the match out twice over. The match only got the go ahead finally just over an hour before kick off - inspection at 11 had been passed but a heavy downpour at around 12 put the match back in doubt with a corner of the pitch worrying the referee.

Fakenham Town 2 Milton Keynes Irish 2 (Fakenham Town win 4-2 on pens)

A groundhopper from another Forum witnessed this huge disappointment for Milton Keynes Irish, so much for my premonitiion that they lifted the FA Vase at Wembley later this year:

Fakenham Town 2 MK Irish 2 (4-2 on penalties)
FA Vase 3rd Round
Admission £5 Programme £2 Booking Fee 42p
Both step 6 sides top of their respective leagues at the start of play, and both sides played some really good football, both sides had players not afraid of taking on and mostly beating opposing players, rather than the normal pass to a colleague. End to end football provided probably the best game I have seen so far this season. Fakenham scored after 25 minutes, the keeper twice parrying a shot to an opponent, the third effort finally got past him. The home side increased their lead 15 minutes into the second half, but the visitors pulled a goal back with 15 minutes left. Their attacks then became more intense, and were rewarded with an equaliser 5 minutes from time. So to penalties, with MK Irish taking the first one. They missed their second and third one, with Fakenham scoring all 4 of theirs to progress to the next round. Impressive ground for step 6, with a 3 row seated stand running almost the length of one side, and a covered terraced area behind each goal. The remaining side was uncovered standing. A decent 40 page Barnes Print programme sold for £2.
