London FA Senior Cup - 2023/24

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately this afternoon's London FA Senior Trophy Quarter Final tie has been postponed. I gather the other two Quarter Final ties scheduled for today are still going ahead, FC Petrocub v Croydon (kick off 3.30pm) and Hilltop Reserves v FC Elmstead (kick off 3.00pm):

Saturday 20 January

London FA Senior Trophy Quarter Final
Sporting Hackney P Cockfosters Reserves

Agamemnon3 - Thanks, I noticed that a groundhopper was in attendance and here's his interesting report, £12 entrance seemed a bit pricey:

Corinthian-Casuals 1-4 Queens Park Rangers U21's
London Senior Cup First Round
Tuesday 23rd January 2023, 7:45 PM @ The United Business Group Stadium
Admission - £12, Programme - £2.50, Attendance - 126
Game number 138 of the 2023/2024 season
After some more 92 ticks this past weekend it was back to the Non-League scene for me tonight as I teamed up with Uncle Smiffy to see if QPR’s U21's could get past Corinthian-Casuals in the First Round of the London Senior Cup.
The Casuals are a very historic team and anyone who’s seen the documentary “brothers in football” will know all about their ties with Brazilian club Corinthians Paulista.
The weather tonight unfortunately was not very Brazilian - a mix of driving rain and strong winds - but that made for a very watchable game in which the Casuals had two good chances in the opening 20 minutes when firstly Thibault Abie had a cross struck towards goal by Koshey Murtra-Ebiesuwa whose effort was saved on the line before Thibault Abie himself had a shot deflect at QPR goalkeeper Harry Cant (careful with the autocorrect Charles!)
QPR however grew into the game and took the lead in the 36th minute when the Casuals could not clear the ball and Lorent Talla’s effort from the edge of the box deflected into the net.
Four minutes later however and Corinthian-Casuals equalised when Thibault Abie swung in a corner from the left which went all the way in at the far right post.
Two minutes later and QPR re-took the lead when Micah Anthony got upended for a spot kick which he tucked away into the bottom left.
QPR should have scored a third when Micah Anthony had a shot well saved around the right post by Arthur Leblond before the resultant corner saw a free header by Deon Woodman finish wide of the left post.
QPR however did get their third before half time when a Casuals mix up saw Harry Murphy pounce although his initial effort was heroically cleared on the line.
HT: 1-3.
After QPR’s Harry Murphy had a shot beaten away, they scored a fourth in the 60th minute when a rocket from Arkell Jude-Boyd flew into the top left from 20 or so yards.
QPR’s Trent Rendall got shown a straight red in the 73rd minute for a “dangerous tackle” but it had no impact on the game as QPR won through to play Dartford in the next round with the winners of that playing Cray Wanderers or Fisher so “El Smiffyco” of Cray Wanderers v QPR could very much be a possibility!
FT: 1-4.
MOTM: Harry Murphy (Queens Park Rangers U21's) - robust in midfield and got himself on the scoresheet.

Sadly Cockfosters Reserves were undone by a freak goal after just, wait for it, two and a half seconds of the London FA Senior Trophy Semi Final tie at Croydon FC on Saturday and never recovered, going down 3-0 in the end, however it was a good run for the Club in the competition. See some photographs from the action and reaction to the early goal scored:

I see that the goal even made news at ten at the weekend following the Croydon v Cockfosters Reserves tie, at least Cockfosters got their fifteen minutes of fame despite losing:
