Religion part 2

Recommended Posts

I have deliberatley not followed the other thread so I can start with a clean sheet of paper.

When asked if I belive in God, I normally say, without sufficent evidence I can't say, however I do belive in the priciples of being a good bloke, and behaving (well sometimes)and being kind to others. So moraly I suppose I sort of believe.

Religion as a basic code of ethics, as mentioned above is not a problem, it's when it becomes bigger than that. It's when a counties politics are governed by religion, when a country goes to war in the name of religion, when a terrorist bombs in the name of religion. Yet religion says we should be at peace and all good geezers.

Warloads and undesirables often infiltrate a religion ansd use it to acheive thier own ends. They brainwash the simple and humble, lighting their blue touchpaper. Look at the Middle East, Ireland etc. People divided by Religion, people too scared to question the merits of what the religion is supposedly telling them to do. Children even today growing up with a hatred for another group because of something that may have happened over 100 years ago. Imagine if the Jews started letting off bombs in Germany because of what Hitler did. That is one example of where people have been sensible enought to grow up and not take it out on those who had no control over events of yesteryear.

In this day and age it's crazy to have people in Northern Ireland still living in differnet roads because one is Protestant and one is Catholic. What difference does it make, it only makes a difference if you let it. Look at places like Iraq, we often see scenes on telly of the mob jumping up and down and burning effigies of Blair and Bush. Now if the so called religious leaders (I say godfathers) one day said to the mob "no actually Blair and Bush are good blokes tell the world" The same mob would be out on the streets signing their praises. The mob do not dare form thier own individual opinions and express them.

Whilst the world cannot split politics from religion, whilst the warlords try to carry out their evil acts in the name of the religion, and whilst there are always the gulable masses, we will never move forward.

Well said, Boroman. That is why it is very important that the new EU constitution does not mention Christianity. The first time round, it only got stopped because the countries in the EU didn't agree to a new set of voting rules. Now they have agreed, and I've got nothing against the new rules. However, the Constitution goes much further than a constitution should. Much of it should be kept in ordinary EU laws. That is bad enough, but the mention of Christianity is simply dangerous, and will lead to more terrorism, and even possibly war. Europe should build on its history of religious tolerance and not on the fact that Christianity has been the dominant religion in Europe for the past centuries.
