Considering such a fuss has been made what Kinnear actually said to supporters in the clubhouse was:

 

"It has been a fantastic achievement to finish 16th and given the fact that it looked like we might be going out of business around Christmas with players not being paid, to perform like we have been since then has been just as good as Chester winning the league, given their resources and given ours".
