Cheshunt 3-2 Billericay

Same old problem, we didn't convert our chances. We had plenty of em, but our finishing was poor.

Thought Cheshunt outdid us tactically, whenever they attacked they committed a lot of men forwards and with plenty of pace up front caused a lot of problems. In comparison we seem hesitant in terms of committing men forwards, and with our strikers all tending to drop off the target area to pick up the ball in wide areas, we tended not to get as many men in the box.

That said, we did have a fair few chances, but failed to do enough with them. Cousins and Brayley both had decent games up front, but both missed reasonably straightforward chances.

A few positives...

Stowe showed up a lot better when he came on as a sub than he did on Saturday, Matt Game also did well coming off the bench.

Thought Hunter and Dorms had decent games and I was surprised when they were both taken off instead of Forbes and Heeroo who I felt were disappointing last night.

Brayley looked lively and 3 goals from 5 games is a decent return.

in the league points make prizes not possession and not missed chances.

we have 20 points from 13 games. in my view that is a meagre return considering the talent and budget we have available.

its true we are only 7 points off of top spot but by the same token we are only 7 points off a relegation position. I hope we still don't have to make the same excuses at Christmas and beyond because I think there should be none

We should start a new line in videos titled, "How to dominate games and get bugger all out of it, the Billericay Town way!" Cheshunt had 3 shots and got 3 goals, that's a lesson in how to take what few opportunities come your way. Neil Cousins alone had more clear cut opportunities than Cheshunt had all night, quite how he starts in front of Stowie though is anyones guess. At no point did Cheshunt put us under any peroids of pressure (I don't think they even had a corner) and Gothard was a virtual spectator for most of the game. More postively we kept plugging away, and Matt Game and Chris Stowe gave us renewed impetus when they came on, both are surely worth a start on saturday.

Stowey had his chance against Windsor and didnt take it. I thought the selection of Cousins was the right one and I thought Cousins played better than many on the night. Unfortunately in a trait which doesnt solely apply to him, he missed a number of good chances.

I don't think anyone is making excuses jl, and what IS the budget?

I think everyone agrees, well everyone I have spoken with agrees, the finishing has been poor, and as you quite rightly say, points make prizes.

I agree with Simon, we created a lot of chances, but didn’t get enough people in the box to finish them.

And yes Matt Game and Chris Stowe did make a difference.

I'm sure everyone who was at the game was disappointed, as they were at Yeading, Eastleigh, and Windsor etc.

If the squad can gain that cutting edge required to finish off games, <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smash.gif" alt="" /> we will win.

We have made a big improvement on last Year, and we will continue to improve, of that I'm sure.

If we are going to challenge for the title we need to learn how to grind out the results. Our current form is that of a bottom half side with only 10 points from the last 9, I think this might be the same as Chelmsford. We particularly need to start grinding out results away from home, even if we don't play particularly well. The signs so far have been promising, but if we don't start improving with the results then our aim of promotion may begin to slip away.

Lets hope for an improvement on Saturday and further progress in the cup.
