New Post indicators - is it working???

Recommended Posts

Okay - I have made an alteration. My initial tests would seem to suggest that they are now working, when visiting from say http://forums.nonleague.com/sacfc

Please could you test it via your normal route of entry to these forums.

If it is still failing, could you please do the following....

1) Clear your cookies from this site http://www.nonleague.co.uk/forum/mycookies.php

2) Log back in

3) re-test via usual route of entry

4) If still failing - check with the default sytlesheet (you should be on the default one (blueish) unless you have altered it.) This can be changed from http://www.nonleague.co.uk/forum/editdisplay.php

5) If still failing, please let me know the following....

a) Your entry route to these forums (URL)

B) Your current stylesheet

c) Your operating system & browser (versions)

This will enable me to replicate your set-up.

Any feedback you can offer, will enable me to make further changes, as once it is all working I can press on with other updates!

Thanks.

Ian

I logged on via the Braintree Town website, sorry to say, it only shows the new posts until you read the first post. For Eg.

If I log onto the Braintree Forum and 3 threads have (1) next to them, it only stays until I have read the first thread, then the other two disappear too.

I click on Index to go to all of the other forums like Bedford, St.Albans, Slough, Windsor and none of them are highlighted.

The only times I get hightlighted posts is from the time I have gone to the main index, therefore I have lost all the un-read posts from the last time I logged in till the next.

Hope that helps. Mark.

Hi Ian

Having similar problems once more.

Today I was reading through a backlog of posts (2 day's worth on Slough Town's forum <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />), using IE browser's Back button to return to the forum index each time (as I didn't trust the 'new post' indicators to remain visible). As expected, after viewing 10 or so threads, all unread indication had vanished - that was without even refreshing the display (which would normally do the trick).

Were you aware of these issues with your new beta software?

Any idea when it might be back to the 'good old days', when it always worked OK?

I'm very happy for you...

...and I am sure that many other readers are having no problems either.

Nevertheless, yesterday morning I was looking through a series of posts and the unread indications all disappeared before I had finished reading the new ones. This was on a single PC, without pressing refresh. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/flame.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />

The problem may be in my PC setup, agreed, but there must still be a problem somewhere.

Unread indications should not 'just disappear'.

One week on, and new information, perhaps...

I cleared cookies last Friday, after logging-off, and did not log-in over the weekend.

Today: usual Monday morning catch-up of ~200 STFC posts.

After log-in, indications were all working fine until I decided to reply to a post.

On return to the forum, all 'unread' indications for messages prior to my post had been wiped.

Hopefully, this is a clue for Ian...

(Incidentally - now using default style sheet.)

PJ STFC, why don't you try logging on here, I come through this all the time, it has worked for over a month, posts stay highlighted for all forums until read.

Give it a try, obviously you can't go through your own forum, but just scroll down to Slough, Braintree, Billericay, Windsor etc.

Very good way of doing it.

KoC, I was using that URL, and I was hoping the new forum software would (eventually) allow us to log-in directly to the Slough forum.

So, as that route was apparently not working properly, I am now trying Mark's suggestion.

Initial tests appear favourable, but if it still doesn't work, I think we'll need some more ideas from Ian_W!

Thank you, both.
