What's the best Billericay goal you have seen ?

Recommended Posts

I remember that one against Grobelaar. Seem to remember we put three past him. I remember someone scoring a screamer off the underside of the bar at home to Aldershot quite a few years ago. Probably around 1999. Cant remember who though.

Best one i can remember clearly was Billy Goldstone firing in a curling freekick into the top right hand corner from the side of the penalty box. Cracking goal.

Couple of corkers that stick in my mind: -

Joe Baker away at Bognor in FA trophy with infamous 'Joe Baker - Billericay' T-shirt to celebrate with

Adekola versus aldershot away - screamer into top corner - cue fight!

Lee williams away at Boreham Wood - volley straight from a corner taken with pin-point precision by mark brennan

Also remember that Billy Goldstone free-kick - an absolute peach - one of many!

Cor..some real crackers amongst that lot!!

How about the Saint away at Slough - beat half of their team starting from the halfway line before rounding the keeper and rolling the ball into the net..

Billy Goldstone from 45 yards in injury time against Dulwich Hamlet in the FA Cup...

Chris Payne 30 yard piledriver at home to Dagenham & Redbridge in an FA Cup replay...

Steve Legge at home to Heybridge Swifts..hit the shot so hard that the stanchion broke in the Blunts Wall End goal...

Joe Baker's goals at Bognor and Hendon take some beating but I'm going with Umbrella Man...Marky Barry away at Uxbridge...a shot in a million!!

Yep, some fab memories in the above sugggestions. Saint's at Slough was truly sensational - after he'd scored he went bonkers and ran straight towards where I was standing ready to celebrate with his family who always came to see him play. Unfortunately they were several yards further down the touchline !

Almost all of Joe's goals were special, the two mentioned at Bognor & Hendon deffo, but I have especially fond memories of the one at Histon on a cold frosty night. Joe had the ball with his back to goal about 30 yards out on the near touchline right in front of where I was standing, and noticing the goalie's poor position I called out "turn and shoot Joe, the keeper's out". He took my advice to great effect ! I claim an assist...

The Adekola goal was described in the press -

'Far out to the left some 20 yeards from goal he was faced with a square line of defenders and two others converging upon him. He looked up and shot for goal. The swerve took [the ball] away from Grobbelaar who could do no more than flap at it and the ball crashed in off the goalkeeper's wrist.'

At the time I happened to be standing , in the Cow shed, about level to where Adekola received the ball and watched as the ball curled first one way then the other and now I cannot actually remember the goalie touching it. What was certain though was that all present knew they had seen goal and a half.

It is dificult to measure 'best goals' but, if ever, the close season is the time to do it.

What about Chris Payne's goal against Dagenham in the FA Cup, most of Steve Jones' and, yes, Billy's wonderful free kicks pre Gary Calder were a joy to see and just as much a joy in their anticipation?

Another thought though - goal celebrations - Simmo at Carshalton to bring the score to 3-3 was pretty good, while Leon had a nice line to - remember his last minute goals and his habit of scoring, raising his arm aloft and pointing to his wrist - Last minute Leon.

Not quite politically correct, but great sending offs might give us a laugh too - though this season everyone must be thoroughly congratulated for going the whole term without a red. (I don't think refs brandished cards in the far off days when a keen BTFC player right hooked a Walton hoofed niggler one Boxing Day - certainly the Billericay man didn't stay to find out. Looking back you have to smile.

I think you will find this was Russell Keen one of the most memorable sending offs I can remember no handbags here just a straight forward right hook that floored the oppo player.
