DAGGERS V GRAYS

Yes to both, Mr Tree . . .

I am, at heart, a very simple dagger, Mr Tree so the building of a straw man, is not a challenge that I would take to so easily, especially if all you have to hand are those bendy straws, although I suppose you could mitigate the flexible tip by severing just below the first sign of distortion . . .

To go to all that effort, just to knock it down appears to my eyes, creative insanity at it's most profound.

talking of adult feelings daggsy...difficult ones as well...do you actually have any guilty thoughts about the rape and pillage of redbridge forest when your own club went skint....

I seem to recall that you were in our league at that time but the subsequent 'merger' and cash injection from the land development sorted you out quite well....you might want to consider that and re-read your own philisophical posts to treeboy....

If I remember rightly, Uncle, the 'rape and pillage' of Redbridge Forest allowed them to be promoted to the Conference through a ground share at Victoria Road. They had only been in existence for less than five years, an amalgamation as they were of two other local teams . . .

The merger of Dagenham and Redbridge Forest, from memory, resulted in a squad that contained probably eighty or ninety percent Redbridge Forest players. From a playing perspective, as a Dagenham supporter, we may have suddenly been promoted to the conference via the merger, but we lost a whole team of players as a result . . .

No - you lost an entire club - it was called Dagenham FC.

Redbridge Forest were only in existence for three seasons, two in the Isthmian Lge and one in the Alliance Premier Lge - prior to that, they were known as Leytonstone Ilford incorporating Walthamstow Avenue.

Prior to this there were two teams - Leytonstone Ilford (briefly known as Ilford & Leytonstone) was one and Walthamstow Avenue was the other.

Prior to that there were three teams - Ilford, Leytonstone, and Walthamstow Avenue - and of course Dagenham.

Now there is only one.

Much as I admire what Dagenham & Redbridge have done for local football, I doubt very much that anyone who supported the "lost" teams will agree, expecially if they live in Ilford, Leytonstone or Walthamstow, and no longer have a decent team to follow.

And for the record - I was completely against the merger.

I do happen to agree with every single point you make there D04, and couldn't have expressed it better myeself. The loss of Dagenham FC was a sad, sad day but I suppose that I can delude myself that it still exists by walking down the same road to the ground and picturing myself sitting on the now terraced over grass mound behind the Pondfield Road goal that I spent so many happy, frustrated, wonderful times.

As you say, D04, supporters from the other amalgamated teams no longer have that opportunity . . .

As to the moral high ground, Uncle, any steps that I take upon that hallowed place are taken whilst wearing the walking boots of jest and a warm fleece of amiability . . . but then I'm sure you knew that anyway . . .
