I've lived in both the Billericay and Braintree areas and can report that the people in the north of Essex are definitely more reserved and less brash than is the case with the Essex man type of the south who are clearly influenced by proximity and blood line to the East end.

But seriously, good luck to Ricay in securing a play-off spot! Your fans deserve it!

That is strange, we heard reports that they were singing-

''He's fat and round, and he's gonna sell the ground''

Hehe TC I don't know whether I should consider being called an Aussie (Ozzie) as being a fevver in me bleedin' cap or not. Most people consider me to be a pom on the first two words I speak.

I'll dissapoint you by pointing out I'm really one of you brash fellas having been brought up in what I call the London belt of Essex before marrying a Braintree girl and settling down in her home town and benefitting from the lower property prices.

I have to say in 1975 Braintree and North Essex had a definite East Anglian feel about it and was/is quite different from the South of the county, the locals being more reserved, politer and tighter. I bet IW notices it with his matchday programme sales

With all the development and the newcomers I've noticed the local accent diminishing as more Londoners find there way further out into the home counties, in not too many years I can forsee the differences between North and South Essex disappearing, a pity really, I felt it gave/gives the Braintree district a unique character.

The increasing attendances are proof that people are indeed getting excited. The Iron chatter forum alone averages over 400 hits daily though not many of the visitors will leave a viewpoint. I'd assume the sister forum to this (fans focus) has also seen increased traffic.

Yep there was something of a "local" character to Braintree in the 1970's. And the accent was quite distinct (some may say Anglian").

As for the brasher South Essex....never encountered it in Billericay until I moved back but it certainly was present in Southend, Pitsea, Basildon (the Thames Corridor).

Ozbrit, Cobber.

Have you ever read 'Watership Down', Oz? Do you remember the couple of chapters early on when the intrepid band of rabbits led by Hazel supported by Fiver, having left their home burrow due to redevelopment, arrive at a second. This second burrow is populated by a bunch of fat rabbits who eat all day on scraps of food left for them by the farmer. They show none of the cautious characteristics of wild rabbits which leaves Fiver very uneasy.

A day or so later, one of the fat rabbits is caught in a trap set by the Farmer. It all becomes clear to Fiver, andd he urges his companions to flee. "Can't you see what is happening you stupid fat rabbits. That farmer is feeding you bullsh!t, you are all eating it, and he's got you just where he wants you. Get the Hell out of here before you all end up in pies".

The stupid fat rabbits look at Fiver and say "Isn't it a really nice day today? Let's go out and eat some more bullsh!t. We are top of the League, say we are toptheleague".

"I bet IW notices it with his matchday programme sales"

Well we had a gate of 703 on Saturday and sold 342 programmes.

A roller-coaster ride of full colour pix and saucy tales to whet your appetite (well the news that wor’ Ollie prefers Beyonce over J-Lo anyway).

Most of the Iron faithful, plus one or two of the travelling Ricay army, seemed to enjoy our humble offering!

so how do you know that the number of views is increasing...it could be one person doing it...

as for increasing attendences...not trying to start a war here Oz and its always good to see a team/club seeking forward momentum but how the hell can you maintain your wage bill on a crowd average of just over 400....ours is similar 2 leagues below you and we only just manage to pay a wage bill some 10% of yours (a guess but probably close)...if.. as seems likely... you get promoted to confsth you will find it very very difficult I fear...

Hmmnnn.

Someone suggested that the land at Cressing Road that nearly had Planning Permission for the construction of 40 flats, until the application was withdrawn, might be worth as muct as £1.5 million, Uncle.

There are various references in the myriad of Press Releases issued by the Media & Telecommunications Centre at Cressing Road that they are to spend a £1 million on ground improvements. And they are hoping for [un-defined] support from the Football Foundation.

On that basis, there's somewhere between half a million and a million pounds to cover the short-fall on this season's income and expenditure deficit and to fund the forthcoming assault on the Champion's League. It's a walk in the park.

In theory.

There you go then all sorted, as the man says a walk in the park.

Perhaps because the data is there for all to see, new visitors, uniques (presumably people who've never been seen before)and returning peoples. As we all know with counts by IP's these can only be seen as a guide, but the trend is un-deniable and 480 is not "just" over 400. I forecast it'll be over 500 after saturdays visit of AFC. Many conf south clubs are doing no better than Ryman clubs in attendances so goodness knows hows they are making out? Hornchurch's attendances are an abberation for the ESL and you know that.

well if we take 'seasonally adjusted gates' into consideration then it would be an average of 480 but there were no more than 550 in there on saturday Ozzie old boy...

you still do not answer the question tho' ...how can you sustain the wage bill in connie sth (and it will need to be at least 8k to survive)...on gates like that cos they will fall when you go up...not increase...(trust me..been there and seen all that)

as for the forums....perleeeeaaasee Oz...we all know about multiple log ins do we not....

anyway well done for the seasons success so far and good luck....my 'attitude' is against the propoganda emminating from the 'tree communciations centre' and not the club itself...its a pity that decent folk get sucked into it all really....

bad news about the planning application by the way.......

no matter....another story will come along real soon...

Why do you address this question to me? I'm not involved with arranging finances at the club, So I won't answer coz I can't.

I do believe however, most clubs are helped along financially from sources external to the footballing side of things, be it a sugar daddy benefactor or otherwise. Football appears to be a business that trashes all the normal business protocols, its a point I've often made. After all you wouldn't sponsor customers to have some nice D/G windows fitted at below cost would you!

I don't see why Braintree should find it any harder going than anyone else in conf south and yes people will always be more inclined to watch a winning side at a lower level compared to an average one on the next rung.

I'll leave you to speculate on the ground developments you come over as a right old woman with your penchant for gossip :0)

G'day Cobber.

It's always difficult for the "ordinary fan" to understand, Oz.

It helps if the Chairman has an unblemished track record of success on the old financial front, of course. What's your bloke's background, Oz?
