Support in SSML

Recommended Posts

Any ideas on who will be the best supported team in the SSML Prem? I wold prob go for Hertford Town who ave a decent number in Isthmian 2 last season.

Does anyone know of the teams who were in the SSML last season who were the best supported and what is the ave gate for games in this div.

I think the ave would be down on the ave for the Isthmian 2, down to fact that the the Isthmian 2 had more established clubs.

Most sides in the Premier division get crowds of around 40-50 for home matches. Some may get a few more now that there are some "Better" sides coming in. But in my experience they dont travel well.

My local clubs (Leverstock Green & Tring Athletic) take very few if any to away matches, other than players parents/girlfriends etc.

...

That was the case with a number of teams in div 2 last season. Edgware being on of them <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

On another's site it says that gates may be published for 06-07.

Did you know that we will only get our fixtures on a monthly basis?

..
Are you serious? why is that? If true then already the SSML is worse then Isthmian 2, for all their faults, the Isthmian site DID have the fixtures up before the season started.

It is true..the SSML has in the past few years given out fixtures on a monthly basis to clubs. When pushed they will give a reason citing County cups and intermediate tournaments but that is hardly good enough for a Senior league. You can get fixtures early by phoning the Fixture secretary on the first of the proceeding month i.e on 1st October you will get November fixtures.

Our average league gate last season was 101 - 50 down on the year before, but we did finish near the bottom. It should be better this year.

We may take more away this year, as the games are closer. Last season we averaged 40 miles per away game, with the furthest away being 69 miles. This year we will average only 24 miles per away game, with the furthest being 47 miles. In total last year, for 15 away games, we did 606 miles. It's only 495 for 20 this year.

Interesting stuff! Yes the SSML always only dish out fixtures to Club's on a monthly basis which on the face of it seems Mickey Mouse but you get used to it. As for gates Oxford City were by far the best supported Club last season and always got three figures for their home games whereas other Club's never got close to that, Harpenden, Haringey, Biggleswade Town and London Colney are amongst the worst supported Clubs and sometimes fail to get more than 10 paying fans.

Gavin - What are your reflections on this now the season is over and who would you say the worst supported teams were when Edgware visited. I think it goes without saying that we all looked upon you as the Oxford City of last season and your name was on the championship, as well as the Challenge Trophy and Premier Division Cup, before the season got under way.
