Walid Matata released by Folkestone!

[color:"blue"]No doubt that Walid Matata is the class of player we should look to sign, but the question is - where would we fit him into the team?

Wedging Jay into the side was a tough enough call as midfield was already strongly represented in the team. The plus for signing him was that he's versatile enough to play as support striker or support centre half.

But Matada would only fit alongside Pinns or Danny (and neither of those two could be dropped on their form this season).

He would be wasted on the wing & we could only fit him there by putting Proths at right-back (which didn't work when Jay first played) or by dropping JJ (and losing the extra width that he brings to open up defences).

You couldn't expect him to sign just so we could have him on the bench (and we don't have a big enough squad to operate a rotation system like we did in the Conference).

In conclusion I'd say he'd be a luxury we'd be hard pressed to afford or justify.

Remy <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> god that guy got on my nerves at times he must have spent more time on the floor then on his feet, having said that he could look great in some games just not consistent enough for the Gate.

So glad everyone agrees with me !!!

we'll see at end of the season.

Having said that, its all a bit academic as indicated at start of the thread in that all three have signed for Thurrock.

Of course i'd rather have JP and DH playing for us, but sooner rather than later we will need a 'third/reserve striker' experienced at this level

In case anybody's interested Ellis's list of clubs now reads like this...

Wimbledon, Hastings, Lincoln, Kettering, Grays, Braintree, East Thurrock, Margate, Bromley, Staines, Harrow, Folkestone and East Thurrock again.

...quite a good effort for a 22 year-old, especially as the last six clubs on the list have been in the last 12 months.
