Under 18's

Bionic II

The Under 18's beat Redbridge 4 2 this afternoon at the ol' Stadium in a very gutsy performance and to come from behind.

Our Colts included a number of lads who had been in the squad for the Capital Friendly against Galleywood last Thursday and were lying 3rd before today's game with our visitors 5th.

Redbridge opened in the first 25 minutes by scoring two goals the first, a free kick on the edge of the home area and the second a run on the left by their centre forward and a near poster that took our keeper, Daniel Gardner, by surprise.

Our lads passing game at this point was not getting into gear and indeed we needed a break or two to make inroads.

It came after 44 minutes after a move on the right ended with Alex Ievoli netting to give us something to aim for second half.

The second half was virtually one way traffic and Alex netted his second to make it Even Stephen from a 30 yard free kick out on the left in similar fashion to his shot on the turn against Galleywood last Thursday night.

Redbridge hit the home crossbar in the 80th minute with a speculative cross, and it was at this point that the game turned our way as a minute later Joe Staunton played a high diagonal ball out to Perry Burns, who had been moved from left to right. Perry rounded the fullback, laid the ball back, and there was Alex Ievoli, once again, to tuck into the far corner.

The game was well and truly wrapped up in the final minute by a ball played through midfield and the visiting keeper fumbling, for Taylor Smith to run the ball into the Redbridge net for number four.

A game, played in tremendous spirit, and, I must say, excellently refereed by Mr Greening.

My Man of the Match goes to the Urchins' keeper Daniel Gardner, for keeping us in the match with vital saves whilst 2 1 down and then at 2 2 accordingly. Also a mention for left back, Chris Collins, supreme throughout, and not forgetting the matchwinner Alex Ievoli.
