Moan about club sponsorship

As someone else pointed out on the website feedback thread, it seems the club had a lack of advertising on it's otherwise excellent website. I know bugger all about this sort of thing, but the club always seems to miss out on on sponsorship and revenue opportunities.

I could name you at least one local buisness that the club just has to approach to be given either sponsorship or a service on favourable terms and i will name it here: Slot leisure and thats coming from someone who no longer lives in the town.

I know that Kieth Scott was working in this area before being dismissed by the club and that he had made small inroads into attracting some sponsorship but just as importantly relationships with local companies who may not be in the position to help with thousands now, but who may in the future particulalry if the club ever got passed it's annual one game run in the FA cup.

I appreciate that those involved with the club often have other committments and many help out on a part-time basis but i have also been told that when people have tried to approach the club with various offers, the club has not exactly "bent over backwards" in wooing potential sponsors.

Am sure people could shed more light on this than i but it does seem to me the club does not always help itself. If Keith Scott was able to get some sponsorship shouldn't the club be continuing down that road well after he's departed?

A-F-E, as it happens i spoke to Neil two weeks ago and he was supposed to give me the name and number of a lady at Slot who was interested in helping us out with new equipment for the club house.

He hasn't given it to me as yet, so when he does, or if you know it send me the details to webmaster@wefc.co.uk

Will forward the basic contact details i have.

I know Neil is aware of the conversation i had with the owner of Slot Leisure last time i was down. I will say more to you in my e-mail.

Aside from that though Malcolm, i think there is a bigger picture with sponsorship at the club that needs looking at. It is difficult for the football club because windsor is now full of "noveau riche" who have not grown up in the town and have little or no affinity for the place let alone the football club and we all know that the london clubs have always been a big draw.

When you see the programme at other and often "smaller" clubs and indeed look at the amount of advertising hoardings around the pitch you often see much more in the way of numbers. As i said earlier Keith Scott was able to secure boards from buisness down the road (for example chevron holidays) who pressumable could have got involved 10 years ago had anyone asked them and who pressumably will not be contacted again for another 10 years.

Should windsor ever get to say the FA cup 1st round in the future not an unrealistic aim, wouldn't the club be much better placed to cash in if it already had a relationship however small with local companies and the like?

Michael, whilst I agree with what you're saying regarding sponsorships in genneral there are a couple of relevant points to take on board. The club are aware of the Slot Leisure offer but we're tied into a contract with our current supplier {and the deal I understand with Slot would have meant having their machines in the clubhouse]. I have spoke to Peter Simpson about this and he's looking into the contract details to see if there's anything we can do.

With regards to people coming on board if we had a run in the FA Cup goes, the FA visit your ground prior to any televised games and any boards you have are the only ones that are allowed [in other words you can't sell boards on the basis of your current success!], in fact, they will also tell you that as the main sponsors of the FA Cup have exclusive rights, they can even put their boards up over your existing boards - how do you think that would leave your current sponsors feeling?

I know the board have been fairly active in contacting local businesses over the last year or so but I feel we could do a lot better in terms of the package we offer and it's something I intend to discuss with them in depth very soon. In the meantime though, if any of our supporters have any contacts or work for a comapny they think may be interested in taking a board or a programme advert then please let me know and I'll follow it up myself.

As ever, thanks for the reply Steve. I shall e-mail both you and Malcom regarding Slot later today.

Attracting business advertising is extremely difficult. Quite simply you are asking a businessman to give you money. There would be little or no chance of getting anything back from having an advertising board around the pitch of Stag Meadow..

Forget blanket marketing/canvassing. The only way to increase board sponsorship is to do exactly what Steve has just suggested. Ask your boss, or a friends boss if he'd dip into his pocket and shell out a few hundred quid.

I'm sure the club would offer a few complimentaries to anyone willing to stump up cash to board sponsor.

As for other clubs and the number of hoardings they have, I wonder how many are current up-to-date fully paid up sponsors. I suspect most have been left up for years to make the ground more colourful and or to dupe others in.

So, lets all go ask our guvners to stick his/her hand in his/her pocket.

Having said all of that, if anyone does have time to trot around Windsor businesses canvassing then I'm sure the club would appreciate that help (better check your figures and what you can and can't offer beforehand though).

See you tomorrow hopefully.

Nobody would suggest that obtaining sponsorship is easy, BUT other clubs seem to do a better job of it than windsor do, year on year. Windsor is an affluent area so i don't beelive that the money so to speak isn't out there.

I don't know the background/reasons as to why the club let Kieth Scott go (i was never a fan of his personally) but i do know he was paid to market the club and had begun to have an influence in that area when they let him go.

The club seems to have to little affinity with the town and sponsorship is about building bridges in a community as well as just plain economics.
