Guantanamo Bay Strike Again ???????????????

Recommended Posts

Do you treat terroism as a criminal or wartime offence?

Personally I would treat terroism as an act of war, as the Terroists wage war on the people and State. In that case the only way to beat 'em is to commit bad acts to them, rather then have liberals dicatate to a Soldier what he can and can't do.

I disagree. As soon as you use the war tag on the terrorist it gives them the sense of legitimacy. IE, they are at war. Bin Laden and his cronnies are criminals, nothing more, nothing less. They should be hunted down and treated like criminals.

On another point, someone earlier in this thread queried why they Quantanamo Bay detainees are not being treated as war prisoners. the Americans say that these individuals were not Afghan citizens and were therefore illegal combatants. whatever you think about the detainees, they do not deserve to be held without trial. they should be tried for treason in their respective countires. After all the UK citizens were fighting againsttheir own countrymen.

Good Point.

Do not give these scum the legitimacy they seek.

However how would you advise the Armed Forces and Security Forces to proceed against these Terroists/Criminals? To fight terroism you need flexilibity with the rules (Maybe I've been watching to much 24).

Whilst these terrorists are at large, I have no problem with assassination attempts etc. I do think that we should try to tke such scum alive so that they canbe tried in a court of law. Once arrested, they should also be treated as human beings and not caged as in Guantanamo Bay

Well...cat among the pigeons time...

I briefly heard tonight that a plane carrying mercenaries has been intercepted by the Zimbabwe authorities.

If any of those mercenaries are American, what will the American govt's stance be with regard to the detention of these "dogs of war"?

Chances are, IF they are American [or British come to that] they may have been supported [behind the scenes] by their govts.

I don't know what nationality they are yet...but even if it were a hypothetical situation, it makes you wonder if we would class these mercenaries as terrorists, prisoners of war, or freedom fighters??

Well thats a comfort.

Is it me or is it a disgrace that some "Britons" have taken arms against the Brits/Yanks?

Reminds me of the story of the Iraqi Refugee in Plymouth who stabbed/slashed the Royal Marine (vetran of the Iraq War) walking back from a night out, in honour of fallen comrades from Iraq.

What a great country we live in.

I am sure when all this first kicked off the government said anyone from britain who went over there and took up arms against BRITISH soldiers would be charged with murder when they returned,is it time for this to be done?
