Athenian League??? - Aka... Stoneage League. No-one can remember it or have even heard of it!! Stone made goals and used the carcass of a small furry animal for a ball!! Big Jr will remember those days well!

if you didnt see ten goals on the boxing day and easter monday games you felt cheated.

 

none of that gloves and socks over your knees, they used to train 8 days a week and had to pay to get in.

just been told it was the London Spartan league, it was before the M25 was even thought of and we used to play against teams from Kent Essek Middlesex and Surrey, it would be an all day event for an away game.

The A25 was the test for footie and the egg chasers , the better you got the more pubs you had to booze up in!

thats right spursy, who did you play for back then? probably played against you, I nearly signed for Leatherhead once but the lure of the wonga wasn't enough, that was about 1979-80

injury made me pack up before i started, but i was never going to be good enough for proper Senior football unless someone could have taught me to head it.

None of this namby-pamby running onto the pitch wiv a stretcher just coz yer centre-forward has broken a nail and his eye-liner has run !

 

When you got clumped, you just bled on the pitch and carried on chasing the ball !

 

Rubber gloves for the physio's to inspect wounds ? Only rubber gloves I remember were left safely in the kitchen strictly for the the wifes use only. I never did learn how to use 'em !
