A message from the Chairman

We are looking forward to the programme of pre season friendlies which obviously includes Arsenal and West Ham and this will provide some much needed revenue.

He's only gone and Sigmunded it...;)

1. An exclusive to Saintsnet. That's a coup. Does that mean he didn't go to ITV with it first, Rob?

2. Good to see that Steve Castle and Freddie Hyatt will be behind Cookie this season. It's taken them long enough. This means they're finally on his side?

It looks as though that one was penned by Gibbo rather than the chap who gets £50,000 a year for ghost writing the manager's notes for the programme and the local rags.

Good stuff, Mr. Chairman. Well done with this lad from Gatwick.

[How much does he want for Ryan, I wonder? I was thinking. If a group of investors were to buy him, perhaps they could lease him back to The Club. It's a thought. Good long term punt particularly if he really does become City's first million pound player.]

The opening remarks intrigue me. He should spend more time on here rather than amongst those bozos, whoever and wherever they are, who are "constantly enquiring" whether he "will be around next season". He's mixing with the wrong company.

Steve Cook has spoken to many players and has several irons in the fire.

*childish giggle*

He has already pulled off a significant coup with the signing of Nic McDonnel from Crawley and you only have to look at their website to see the uproar that this has caused.

Oh Dear! EFM have started the season well

A follow up to last season's successful Sporting Dinner is to be held on October 2nd at Sopwell House and will feature Stan Boardman and Ronnie Whelan amongst others.

That'll be good for the morale of Corey Cambell and De Souza.

Collective responsibility, hb, collective responsibility.

If you consult your History A level notes, it's a concept upon which the cabinet of the British Government was based in the pre-Tone Middle Ages. Happy days.

I imagine that the same principle applies at The Mighty Saints if you check the small print of your contract.

[Oh, by the way. are your E-mails, PM's and replies to postings still checked by MI5?]

Yes, they were a bit touchy when we went on there.

I know that there has been a few raised eyebrows with regard to those players that have been transfer listed but each of the players in question has had talks with Steve Cook and they are well aware of our position.

 • 1 month later...

I am sick and tired of the whingers and the whiners who come on here whinging and whining.

I don't know anything about football but I presume that in late June, The Chairman and the Board make an estimate of income for the forthcoming season. Attendance at pre-season friendlies, season ticket sales, sponsorship and commercial activities, likely average home gate, clubhouse income etc. I imagine that they then sit down with the Manager and outline the anticipated playing budget for the season, who then begins to assemble the squad. So far so good.

In early July this season, Millwall cry off. I have no idea of the Board's expectations, but I was a little disappointed at the sub 300 attendance for the Gillingham and Rushden games. Shortly after, West Ham Utd 'XI' cancel. The gate for the Arsenal XI was what? 1700? I don't know whether that's considered by the Board to be good or bad.

However, without doubt, income from pre-season friendlies, estimated by the Board when setting a budget with the Manager in June is down dramatically when 2 of the 5 friendly matches are cancelled. The budget is re-appraised and Shrek, Challinor, Evans and Kean are cut. Surprised? Moi? In other times and other places, the Chairman would have signed half a dozen more players and dealt with the bills in time honoured fashion by ignoring them. Not here not now, thank goodness.

Those who criticise should look around The Crown on a Saturday lunchtime, look down at the 1995/6 shirt that they proudly wear to demonstrate their allegiance to The Saints and rather than musing on whether the Club should sign J-F Hasselbaink in order to mount a serious challenge for the title, and then debating whether it's worth the admission price to the ground today, perhaps they should ask themselves how they can help.

Absolutely spot on, AFF.
