Whats the point....

I believe that some games are now to be played on the weekend of the 1st of May, thus extending the season by a week. Whilst I accept that the weather has been truly awful this year, it is surely the club's responsibilty to get all their games in by April 22nd as set out by the league at the beginning of the season. It should not matter whether they have to play three times a week (or get Farnborough's pitch slightly muddy) to get the games completed. By extending the season some teams are going to get a bigger rest periods bewteen games and have an unfair advantage.

Also, these players have started pre-season around the middle-end of June last year due to it being a world cup year (many are still waiting for their first international caps!!!!) and many may have booked holiday's for when the season is due to finish in early May (a cheaper time to get away and also before pre-season starts). Is it really fair for a player who has played in every game of the season to miss a game due to holiday that he booked knowing the season is finished....I don't think it is.

The season becomes a 10.5 month campaign and that really is too long. What do you guy's think?

and with the weather the way it has been do you have a better idea or suggestion? dont forget many of these clubs also have reserve games/ U18/ Ladies fixtures that need to be arranged too.

.... and don't forget the 'ground-share' situation !

What about only having 20 teams per divison for a start, scrapping one or two cup competitions (southern combination and the league cup) that generate little income and only add to the amount of games that are played on the pitches and by the players. If certain clubs pitches are continuously unplayable then the fixture can be given to the away team to try and play it at their ground. Changing the ladies divisions in this area so it is summer based (thus possibly improving attendances too).

There is some 'ideas and suggestions' that I have quickly thought of. We are always going to have bad winters and games will always be called off, If changes were made it would be beneficial to the players, who already suffer from a long enough season. Don't forget that the players will probably have to train twice a week also when weeks are added to the season, where as spectators simply have to turn up on saturday and watch.

HI GUYS, ALL THIS HYPE AND SUGGESTIONS ARE INTERESTING, BUT DO YOU NOT THINK THAT THIS IS A KNEE-JERK REACTION ?

PLEASE LETS BE HONEST, THIS BEEN AND EXTRAORDINARY SEASON FOR BAD WEATHER, I CANNOT RECALL IN ALL MY LONG YEARS HAVING EXPERIENCED SO MANY GAMES BEING CALLED OFF. I BELIEVE WE SHOULD LEAVE THE LEAGUE MATTERS AS THEY ARE FOR THE FORTHCOMING SEASON/S AND THEN RE-EVALUATE THE SITUATION NEXT SEASON AND SEE WHAT THE WEATHER BRINGS US, IF IT IS THE SAME OR WORSE NEXT SEASON THEN SOMETHING COULD BE DONE HOWEVER I THINK THE FA WILL HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT IT.

ONE THING I WOULD LIKE THE LEAGUE TO CHANGE, IS THAT ONLY 1 CLUB BEING PROMOTED WITHOUT ANY PLAY-OFFS FOR THE 2ND CLUB TO BE PROMOTED OR EVEN HAVE THE 2ND PLACED BEING PROMOTED. THIS IS A COMMON TOPIC ON THIS SITE AND IS STRONGLY FELT AMONGST US ALL. PERHAPS THE LEAGUES SHOULD HAVE A SHAKE UP AND COMMENCE THE PLAY-OFFS AT CCL LEVEL PROVIDING EACH CLUB HAVE THE GROUND APPROVAL FOR PROMOTION.

I HAVE ONLY BEEN WATCHING THE CCL THIS SEASON BUT AS MENTIONED BEFORE, RECORDS SHOW THAT THERE HAVE BEEN PREVIOUS RUN-AWAY LEADERS/CHAMPIONS IN THE CCL PREMIER DIV. SO THE SEASON BECOMES BORING, NON-EVENTFUL WITH ONLY THE RELEGATION BATTLE HAVING ANY EXCITEMENT OR ENTERTAINMENT.

WHY DOESN'T EVERY CLUB IN THE CCL PREMIER SEND A LETTER TO THE CCL/FA ABOUT THEIR COMMENTS ON THIS SUBJECT EVEN A PETITION SIGNED BY ALL THE SUPPORTERS ? SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE WOULDN'T YOU AGREE !

Nicey, you can't have two teams promoted.

There are 14 leagues at step 5 (CCL Prem level). Two teams from each going up means 28 teams in total.

There are only six step 4 divisions for these teams to go into which means those leagues have to relegate 4 or 5 teams each to accomodate all the teams going up. That's not going to happen so it's not even worth dreaming about.

The way it stands at the moment is two teams go down from each of the step 4 divisions making 12 vacancies. There are 14 leagues fighting for those 12 vacancies so it's not even guaranteed that the team finishing top will get promoted. Since the FA rejigged the pyramid to it's current format there have always been enough vacancies at step 4 for two reasons - one is that teams going bust higher up the pyramid create gaps and the other is that many clubs at step 5 haven't got the correct ground grading for promotion so some leagues haven't been able to promote a team. If the champion club of each step 5 league doesn't want to go up or doesn't get the grading then the second placed club may be promoted although the Isthmian League pulled a fast one last season by making sure Horsham YMCA were promoted from third postition in the Sussex League in order that Horsham FC could ground share with them. Sussex League rules say no ground shares are allowed.

The FA's line is that if there are more champion clubs at step 5 who have the facilities and want to go up than there are vacancies at step 4, then the teams that get promoted will be decided on points per game.

Basically, there's no point trying to get two promoted when it's not even guaranteed one will be promoted, especially as more and more clubs are getting their grounds done up.

Happily there are teams paying far too much on players at higher levels and going t*ts up thus creating room. If that stops then it's gonna be even harder to get promoted from this level.

I hope that makes sense. It's all clear in my head but may not be as clear when written down.

THANKS VPCTFC, A FANTASTIC EXPLANATION AND INSIGHT ON HOW THE PYRAMID WORKS ON PROMOTION AND RELEGATION. I AM SURE THIS WILL ANSWER ALOT OF OTHER BUDDIES QUESTIONS ON THIS SITE.

HOWEVER, MY COMMENTS DID STATE TO HAVE A 'SHAKE UP' WITHIN THE NON-LEAGUE DIVISIONS, ALBEIT MANY CLUBS ARE STARTING TO FEEL THE PINCH AND HAVING FINANCIAL PROBLEMS WHICH 'MAY' LEAD TO THE CCL BEING PERMITTED TO HAVE 2 CLUBS PROMOTED.

HAVING THE KNOWLEDGE OF RYMAN AND NOW CCL (THIS SEASON) FOOTBALL ROOTS, MY FEELING AS IT IS FOR MANY-A-CLUB IN THE CCL, WHO WILL VERIFY THAT IF YOU'RE NOT IN CONTENTION WITH ANY RUN-AWAY LEADERS - MAYBE THIS SEASON WILL BE DIFFERENT-, THE LEAGUE IS JUST A LOST CAUSE COME 3/4 OF THE SEASON THROUGH, SOMETIMES EVEN EARLIER, IT'S SIMPLY THAT THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO PLAY FOR UNLESS YOU'RE IN THE RELEGATION ZONE THAT IS !

WHAT I AM TRYING TO PROMOTE IS TO MAKE THE CCL MORE EXCITING AND ENTERTAINING TO WATCH, WHICH FOR THE 1ST TIME IN MANY YEARS, THIS SEASON MAYBE DIFFERENT FROM THE PREVIOUS SEASONS ESPECIALLY NOW WE HEAR THAT NGU CURRENTLY CANNOT GO UP DUE TO THEIR ADMIN ERROR, SO NOW THAT MAKES THE CCL MORE EXCITING AS WE HAVE ANOTHER FIGHT FOR 2ND PLACE.

ANYWAY, I AM SURE YOU GET MY JIST OF WHAT I AM TRYING TO SAY, IS TO HAVE THE CLUBS IN THE CCL HAVE MORE TO PLAY FOR.
