Is anybody popping out of work today to watch the London 2012 victory parade, it should be a great occasion and people are already lining the streets three or four deep

IMO every single athlete deserves our adulation, but once all the euphoria has died down and things are back to normal the disabled will have their benefits cut, there will still be a shortage of sporting facilities for all the people that were so inspired to get involved in sporting activity, Stratford will still be a dump, and the fabled Olympic legacy will be a nation of even more couch potatoes. Its not all doom and gloom though as we still have the financial scandals to look forward to..

I certainly hope it's the start of bigger and better things for Stratford and Hackney - two areas that were left to rack and ruin years ago, but now they are fighting back.

It would be a major shame if nothing good came out of the Olympics.

Oh, and Leyton Orient to get the Olympic Stadium too!

My son come home from Singapore for the Olympics, and as soon as he got off the plane he thought he was in the wrong country as everyone was smiling. It would be nice if the feelgood factor generated by the games could continue for ever, but there's little chance of that happening.

Building more and more flats in Stratford is certainly not a great recipe for regenerating the area IMO, as far to often they are a catalyst for the creation of ghettos and squalor.

If the hapless hammers do get the tenancy of the Olympic Stadium it would be great news for the two porn Baron owners who would see the value of their investment multiply ten fold, and make the club far more attractive to an oil rich sheik or Russian billionaire, who they would reluctantly sell the club to for a very handsome profit.

It wouldn't actually surprise me if Barry Hearn pulled it off but then it would be similar to Darlington wouldn't it and a handful of people watching games in a massive stadium.

Darlington's scenario was slightly different, Rhodes, in that the person who moved them into the Darlington stadium (George Reynolds) was a scummy businessman who threatened most of the town. He wanted Darlington in the Premier League, but his plans didn't work and ever since they moved from The Feethams they've became a club in crisis. They reached rock bottom last season, where they had to reform in the Northern League, move out of the Darlington Arena and share a ground (with Bishop Auckland I think?)

Barry Hearn is one of the straightest and most honest club chairmen there is, and has done well to move Leyton Orient forward from the dark days of the mid 1990s when they were put up for sale for £5! Barry wants what's best for the club, and I do not blame him for fighting West Ham for the stadium which is on their patch. If West Ham do get the stadium, it will kill Leyton Orient.

Leyton Orient might not be a big club now, but 10 years ago neither were Manchester City, Swansea City, Cardiff City or TSV Hoffenheim.

West Ham won't move until the housing market picks up, and in the meantime they have over £100m worth of debt. Also, what happens if Dai Porn or his mate kicks the bucket?

AdamKing - You know your onions don't you and I don't disagree that Barry Hearn appears to be a decent bloke, well better than Frank Warren anyway, however taking into account the time he has been at Brisbane Road now and his huge wealth why aren't the O's in the Premiership or at least challenging for a place.

That's a very good question, Rhodes, but then again you could ask that about a lot of clubs who have rich chairmen yet never seem to do much.

In Leyton Orient's case, they have West Ham, Tottenham and Arsenal all nearby - so they have to compete with three well-established large clubs for fans. They have only ever played once in the top flight, and have spent the bulk of their career in the lower leagues (watching Football League Extra as a kid, I always remember that they always seemed to be bottom of whichever league they were in!)

I'm sure that Barry does want Orient to do well, but sometimes it just does not go for you. You've only got to see how much PSG spent last year in Ligue 1 - millions spent and no trophies won. Conversely, Montpelier spent barely anything (and they are not a particularly rich club) and won the league.

I’m not quite sure where French football comes into the equasion or how it can be compared, it’s a whole different ball game

Just an example of money not always being able to buy short term success.

Unfortunate choice of idiomatic expression, Rhodes. The French play EXACTLY the same ball game!

As always I was absolutely shocked to hear of some of the Honours dished out like confetti, it seems like you only need to blow your nose to get one these days!

Loosely never answered whether he has any letters after his name then, that's a surprise, I wonder what he thought of some of the New Years Honours such as Cherie Blair CBE for example
