fatboyatmfc Posted September 2, 2012 Share Posted September 2, 2012 A hard fought 1-0 (Bitz pen). We did well on a bumpy pitch and tried to get the ball down and play. The lads at the back dominated and Leighton were kept at bay with only a couple of half chances. Everyone put in a shift and we created a few decent chances of our own. Bitmead with a couple of strikes that the keeper did well with, Dan had an effort saved from a corner and Kofi went through late on but blazed over high wide and hansome! lol The penalty came about on 70 mins after Bairoh was pulled back in the box. this was one of many similar incidents where Leighton were "touchy feely" but they went unpunished. Bitmead scored from the spot. This is an excellent 3 points because other sides will come here and find it difficult. Very nice clubhouse. Very nice people. Leighton's best spell came in the last ten minutes when they pressed forward for an equaliser but we looked utterly determined to maintain a second clean sheet in a row. On "refwatch", again no major issues. There was some consternation at half-time that the officials were not properly punishing some fairly obvious holding by two of the Leighton defenders in particular, on occasions, but whether or not the officials discussed it at half-time, just about everything of that nature was duly punished in the second half, culminating in the penalty award, from which we scored. Otherwise ref was up with play, seemed to talk to the players and we'll have a lot worse. Just one caution, for Scott Weight, an over exuberant tackle in the centre-circle bringing it's deserved reward. There was one for the Leighton left back for "persistent", again probably deserved.
