Good result last night. Two of the longest trips in the season, on a consecutive Saturday and Tuesday, so a satisfying result in Bedfordshire. Well done.

It appears that one of last night's crowd is a Leighton Town fan who was at our recent 'game' away at those thugs. Their report of last night's game on the Kempster forum says this...

"With both sides scrapping for mid-table mediocrity, this was never going to set the pulse racing. It was the visitors who took the initiative, scoring both their goals in the first half and while Barton managed to chop their lead down with a penalty, there was never any danger of it being surrendered completely, nor thankfully were there any of the histrionics that were on show at Burnham".

Firstly, if you've just had a player's leg broken and no red card's issued, then a similar tackle flies in ten minutes later, and you then get a player sent off due to retaliation for another nasty foul not given by the officials, wouldn't you get a bit hot under the collar?

Secondly, I can't believe the jibe about mid-table mediocrity. This coming from someone whose team are only above NGU and Woodford in the table (and Leighton only managed to beat Woodford 5-4 recently) and who are nervously checking to see if they can avoid finishing second bottom - plus, Leighton are on the podium for worst side to visit us this season. What that supporter wouldn't give for 16 league wins and a comfy mid-table placing. Oh, and a county cup final appearance.

I would say that our first half performance on a drying pitch was as good as any all season. Barton had been unbeaten for four games beforehand and we were missing several regulars including Kofi, but we were on our game. Joe Bennett is in good form at the moment and Antonio Simeone looks an excellent signing as is Matt Baxter who seems to have matured as a footballer and one who will always score goals. Antonio gave us the lead with a header from a corner and Joe doubled it soon afterwards, finishing off an excellent move.

Barton were playing down the slope in the second half and pegged us back at times, clawing one goal back from the spot when Antonio handled the ball. Overall though we did not really look as if we would relinquish the lead and close to the end Matt Baxter almost broke the bar with a tremendous effort. We also had yet another decent shout for a penalty not given when Matt seemed to be bundled over. The ref felt it was "just two players coming together".

We look forward to Barton, who made us very welcome, visiting us on Saturday.
