Against a Risborough team no doubt stronger due to a number of first team players being drafted in. United battled hard and at times were more than a match for the Risbotough team. In fact United could have gone in leading at half time but were denied by a bizarre refereeing decision and some good keeping by the home custodian. The bizarre decision came on 34 minutes when a corner swung in from the left was met by Cam Harris who headed home but the ref disallowed the goal for pushing though it was clear that the Risborough player had pushed the United goal scorer. Shane Fox then rose moments later to head a powerful effort towards goal only for the keeper to save briliantly. Baxter then hit a rasping shot that the keeper once again saved. The second half saw United dominate for long periods. Ryan Baxter raced through only to be denied by the keeper, who was having a blinder. Sam Smith climbed off the bench and went on a run that started in his own half, beat three defenders but was tackled before he could get his shot off. But it was not to be, and it was a disappointed bunch that travelled home, and our dealings with Risborough this season has left a bitter taste in the mouth but they will reap what they sow in relation to their Development side and Tom from 24/7 had kindly donated the £100 they failed to pay to the Indie charity. But saying all that great set up and we wish them well next week in their game at Flackwell Heath. Only looks like 9 players from the first team squad featured for the development team. Only 42 league positions between them, what are they complaining about? Winslow Boy

No first team game so need to keep fitness levels up. I don’t think you can blame any club for playing who they want, it’s the leagues fault for allowing development/reserve teams in div 2. It wasn't just fringe players looking at the team sheet all 9 had over 15 appearances for the first team and 6 have started over 10 games for them. But you are correct, it is poor from the league and with the dev side struggling to get a team together most weeks by the looks of it, of course they will play first team players if they have no fixture. I don't even think County Leagues let this happen. I guess the issue is when the other team has something to play for like Eynesbury United clearly do, a game like this can potentially affect that significantly through no fault of their own, there is over 40 places between the teams. Couldn’t agree more. many teams have had the same issue, challenging for the div 2 title only to come up against a step 4 or 5 team who’s development side are languishing in the bottom half. Bring back the reserve leagues!!!!!!!

Bring back the reserve leagues!!!!!!! Daily Dose - I note from the November 2019 SSML Management Board Minutes (see extract below) that a survey was introduced regarding the re-introduction of a Reserve team structure, presumably for the 2020/2021 season, however I believe that's about as far as it got, perhaps the survey suggested that there wasn't sufficient interest and the League conveniently dropped the plan as it would have created a lot more work, administration and headaches: Reserve Team Football – It was noted that a further survey was to take place with regard to the re introduction of a reserve team structure. There was a view expressed that it may be appropriate to await the restructure of the League before embarking on any further internal changes. It was agreed, however to go ahead with the survey to assess the views of current member clubs.

I remember being blooded in the old reserve league and found it very competitive. 16/17 year olds would get great experience playing against other promising young players and some vastly experienced ones. The mixture was superb.
