Darren Clarke and his young team have done well since stepping up a Irchester from Newport Pagnell Reserves.

Massive difference is standard and after a period of adjustment they have been competitive. Shame they just had too much to do really and lost some close games.

Decent bloke Darren, hopefully for him and the players they can escape the drop, but may need some assistance from the FA if they can finish second bottom.

This should be an interesting affair albeit a 'dead rubber':

Jets 0 Dunstable 3

No surprise here, Jets severely depleted with 4 regular starters out through suspension/holidays, and 3 didn't flatter the visitors.

Standout was Dunstable's captain, Stirling, whose commanding presence intimidated the young Jets attack from the off.

Both sides came into this with poor league form, and the away bench celebrated the 2nd goal like it was a cup final.

Tin hat time for us Tuesday with the same quartet missing and high flying Hadley out for revenge after our win there in happier times before Christmas. 1 win in 11 now in the league, and only 8 scored. Hopefully we can improve for the last 3 away games once we're back to full strength, but almost certain it's going to be a tough watch before then.

Glad to see the back of them, bunch of yobs. And that's just the committee members! Openly talked about their involvement in Premier League hooliganism at our game. Thugs from the top down, absolute joke of a club and shouldn't be allowed to get into higher leagues as they don't have a ground. I don't think anyone in the Spartans will be sorry to see the back of them. Except maybe PetetheGreek, who I saw was on the line there today...

Wow, just wow. You've certainly gone down in my estimation. They were collectively a disgrace that night, blocking the view of anyone in the seats by standing throughout clearly with the intention of starting a fight, boasting about fights they'd had in Manchester and Arsenal, which by implication you seem to condone, never mind the atrocious state in which they left the dressing room.

I think it's time you retired, you're out of touch.

I've not expressed an opinion on either Club.

I have just pointed out their opinion of your Club in the way you have given your opinion of them.

A groundhopper from another Forum was in attendance and what an attendance of 425:

Spartan South Midlands League Premier Div
Flackwell Heath 1 Hadley 1 (H/T 0-0) Att: 425 (bumper attendance, presumably because of the free admission initiative)
Admission: Free Programmes: £1 (good 16 page issue)

Have been meaning to do this ground for some time but decided to make it an early/late season start to ensure the journey to/from Bourne End Station was in the light. Travelled to Maidenhead from Paddington on the TFL service, which allowed free travel with my London Freedom Pass. Enjoyed a big breakfast in the Bear (Wetherspoons pub) in Maidenhead and then caught the hourly local service to Bourne End where I arrived about 12.50. Opted to do the 2.5 mile walk to the ground, as had been advised the local bus service was not always reliable. Fortunately there was a well trodden footpath alongside the road I chose so not question of having to avoid oncoming traffic, but it was something of an uphill climb. Arrived at the ground at about 13:45 having been unaware of the free admission and managed to secure a programme and enjoyed a pint of Moretti in the neat club house whilst wating the 2nd half of the Sheffield United v Bournemouth game. The ground has a seated area on both sides with some covered standing on one side and behind both goals with a small amount of raised terracing. Unfortunately it is hemmed in by housing on all four sides so doubt there is much scope for further development. May just about qualify for Step 4 but would not have thought any further, should have the club any ambition to progress.
The pitch slopes from one end to the other and curiously in both halves the team kicking up the slope had the better of the play. FH are currently 5th in the table with Hadley in 3rd position. The visitors kicked up the slope in the first half and but for 2 good saves by the FH keeper (Tom Rees) would have been ahead at half time. In particular midway through the first half, Hadley's speedy winger (Solomon Opori), who caused problems for FH throughout the match, broke through on a one on one but Rees did well to block the shot.
In the second half FH had the better of the play and took the lead on 61 mins through Callum Bunting, who converted a penalty awarded for a foul in the area. FH were still in the lead on 90 mins but 4 mins into injury time Opori won a throw in on the left, quickly took the throw to a colleague who centred for 2nd half sub Ed Davis, who was unmarked, to glide a powerful header out of the reach of the keeper into the right side of the net. Incredibly there were yet another 8 mins of added time but neither side were able to add to their tally. The match did not finish until roughly 17:05 but a draw was a fair result in the end, leaving Hadley needing 2 points from the remaining 3 matches to be certain of securing 3rd spot.
Fortunately had plenty of time to get back to Bourne End to catch the 18:11 to Maidenhead and the walk back was much easier being downhill most of the way. Caught the TFL connection at Maidenhead and was back at Paddington by 19:20. All in all a good day out.

Division Two
New Badwell St Peter 1 Eynesbury United 2

Eynesbury United's version of events:

New Bradwell (0) 1 Eynesbury Utd (1) 2 (Carberry, Baxter)
United produced a great performance to pick up three points in their quest for promotion. The Bulls worked hard and played some great football against a side who have recentIy proved hard to breakdown by their opponents.
United who have not played a league game since early March when they beat Berkhamstead Raiders away, gave a full debut to young Alfie Carberry who was signed from the impressive St Neots U18 team. And Alfie had the real first chance of the game when he latched on to a Baxter pass but his shot was tame and easily saved by Smith. United’s dominance continued and man of the match Shane Fox had the next effort of note when he tried to lob the Bradwell keeper but it went just wide. The United midfield of Fox, Routs and the Duracell bunny that is Ollie Sole never let the Bradwell team into the game in the first half, but for all that possession United could not find that opening goal, though not for the want of trying. However, finally just before half time great work from Fox threaded a precise ball through to Carberry whose despite his young age beat the onrushing keeper with a great finish. It was no more than United deserved and The Bulls went in one up.
The second half started the same with United dominating. Ryan Baxter was becoming more of a threat and had a great chance on 49 minutes but his shot was saved. Baxter then got in down the right and a great cross found Carberry but his shot went wide. Sammy Routs who was superb in midfield then found Ollie Sole who effort went wide. However, United started to tire and and allowed Bradwell to come into the game, and they reduced the deficit on 74 minutes with a well taken goal. This woke United up and they did have the ball in the net again when Jennings scored from close range, however he was judged to have handled and the goal was disallowed. With that United saw the game through and picked up three vital points, but a special mention needs to go to the United defensive unit who were quality on the day. Now onto Thursday when we travel to Buckingham United, we need the same again.
