FA Cup Preliminary Round Replays
Grays Athletic 3 Stotfold 2

A groundhopper from another Forum was in attendance, £10 seems a little pricey, as well as £3 for a programme, but at least they got value for money:

Grays Athletic 3 v 2 Stotfold - FA Cup Preliminary Round Replay.
Doorstop - 68 pages £3.00 - Admission £10.00 (nc) - Att. 242.

Though perhaps a small piece of adopted home town bias creeping in, but after falling a goal behind within the opening minute, the hosts responded extremely well though there were occasions where the quickly breaking out of defence visitors could easily have put the game well beyond Grays.
The understanding from those who attended the first match was that Grays were extremely fortunate to have gained a replay even though they conceded a ninety seventh minute leveller and this perception was made clear in the first seconds with Stotfold taking the lead. Unsure of where the home defence was at the time but it was not at Parkside as Kade Bagge strode almost effortlessly down the right, passed inside to Mason Spence and the latter finished easily past a woefully underprotected Danny Sambridge.
Initially in response Grays over relied on a long ball approach which frequently led to an offside flag being raised but there was that noticeable advantage of additional pace with the hosts. Liam Gooch in the Stotfold goal made several important saves but some of the home shots especially a shot from the edge of the area from Mitch Hahn and then a free kick from MacAuley Joynes were over struck and ended up high over the bar. However, the continued threat from the hosts going forward was not matched with an effective defence and a further quick break down the right saw the visitors double their advantage with another impressive run from Bagge being met by an excellent volley from Codi-Lee Spavins that he managed to keep low and direct it wide of Sambridge.
Despite trailing by two goals just before half time there was the belief that Grays would be able to salvage the contest and two incidents prior to the break confirmed this belief. Firstly, a quick break through the Stotfold defence saw Joshua Osube place past Gooch to halve the deficit and secondly an most crucially the visitors missed a penalty which if converted would have established a formidable 3-1 advantage. Clear award as Bagge was brought down by behind by George Winn, however Sambridge dived to his left to successfully to push away Spence's penalty which although well struck did not possess the angle that was required.
The first half that had been played at a ferocious pace despite the humid conditions continued into the second period but as the minutes ticked onwards what became noticeable was the fact that many of the Stotfold players were wilting in the conditions. In the opening minutes of the second half they could have put the contest further out of reach for the hosts as Spavins had a clear run on goal but placed his shot straight at Sambridge in what was a further crucial moment. The hosts continued to push forward and soon after Stotfold should have established a clear advantage Grays had levelled with a well worked goal involving a number of passes and a cross which Callum Watts angled past Gooch.
With tiredness becoming an increasing feature of the visitors play but they mustered one final attack of note that could have easily led to them retaking the lead. Notable attack in that it involved the fresher legs of two recently introduced substitutes with an excellent cross from the right by Sam Nicholls in the direction of Josh Bamford whose header was travelling under the bar prior to Ronnie Winn heading off the line. Grays though were very much in the ascendancy at this point with Osube who from this angle had a highly impressive contest contributing significantly as did the pacey Aron Gordon. Firstly, he burst through a slow reacting defence but placed his shot too close to Gooch. Within a matter of minutes the reversal of fortune for the hosts was completed when a further well worked move saw Gordon angle a pass in the direction for Osube who beat the offside flag rounding Gooch and from an angle that was not favourable placed into the net. With Stotfold collectively exhausted from their efforts there was little cause for concern for the hosts and for the 1st Qualifying Round they make the trip to Edgware and Kingsbury which gives the opportunity for further progress. Praise for the visitors who played a massive part in what was a memorable contest and I look forward to seeing them on the seventy first Parkside trip on Sunday when they play May & Baker in the Vase. First a longer than has been the case of late trip on Saturday.
As per usual walked in both directions between the Riverbank and Parkside but with the heat being humidly oppressive, pace was slower than usual and in addition it was noticeable on the outward journey the early autumn feature of late summer 2022 in terms of the shedding of leaves from trees. Indoors from the clammy conditions at 23.25.

A groundhopper from another Forum was present, I think Karen's attendance figure of just 30 is based on paying fans and 100 is far more realistic, as we know from when the Club were in the SSML previously that St Panteleimon let a lot of their connections in without paying:

FA Cup Replay
Hertingfordbury Park
St Panteleimon 3-3 Leverstock Green (2-2 after 90 minutes, Leverstock Green win 4-2 on penalties)
Att 100 (hc), Admission £7, no programme
Well I think it's fair to say that nobody saw this one coming as late as the 88th minute when St Panteleimon were cruising at 2-0 up!
Started off as a pretty reasonable game with a goal in each half seemingly giving St Panteleimon a comfortable route into the next round, though they should have been much further ahead by this stage. With the crowds starting to head towards the exit, Leverstock Green out of nowhere scored with pretty much their first two real chances of the game, with both teams coming close to a winner before the end of 90 minutes. Extra time was played at breakneck pace. Leverstock Green took the lead in the 100th minute, but were almost immediately pegged back.
When it came to penalties, Leverstock Green scored all theirs, St Panteleimon had the 3rd saved and the 4th blasted over the bar, and will wonder just how they managed to lose this.

A groundhopper from another Forum was at this one, is the attendance of 348 a record, or close to a record, for the Shefford Sports Club:

Shefford Town & Campton 3-2 Southend Manor (HT 1-1)
Spartan South Midlands Premier v Essex Senior League - both Step 5
FA Cup Preliminary Round Replay
Shefford Sports Club, Attendance 348, Admission £7, Programme £1 - quite a good read, not too many adverts, and even a mileage chart to all the other grounds in the Spartan Premier League.
One of my local teams hosting their replay match. The new housing estate on the access road appears to now be virtually complete, the queue of cars entering the ground was queueing to the main road, with 2 staff taking monies at the small shed by the gate. Cars were still arriving up to 8pm. The most full I've ever seen their car park, meaning I was directed to the 'over flow car park' up the hill beyond the far goal where their junior/practice pitches are. I spent most of the first half watching from the grass banking behind the dug outs, with a very good view. I sat in the stand for the second half, which had quite a shallow rake of seats, meaning my view wasn't quite so good. There was an outdoor temporary bar at the entrance to the club house which seemed to be working well.
The game was very entertaining for varying reasons. Both teams started well with lots of energy, the first goal was for SM at 12 minutes and ST&C responded 15 minutes later with a great goal from Henry Snee. ST&C's third goal was scored into an empty goal mouth with the SM GK well out of his area. Towards the end of the second half the referee appeared to lose control, with play stopped around the 90 minute mark for a good 7-8 minutes whilst varying players argued the awarding of a Free Kick which then turned into a penalty and at least 2 cards awarded, from which SM scored their second goal, it was hard to see exactly what was occurring, but SM had a player sent off at this point.
