Ryman League - St Albans City 1 Hornchurch 1

This was our chance to gain revenge on our 1-0 defeat at the Stadium back in September, and we no longer had the distraction of the FA Trophy. The home side were not going to make it easy for us and put in worthy performance.

We took the lead in the 7th minute through Vinnie John, who rose to head in from a Mark Graham corner over a committed keeper. St Albans almost replied straight away with an acrobatic volley from Gary Wraight whistling past the post. In the 12th minute we could have gone further ahead when Bertie Brayley beat the offside trap and with the keeper well off his line tried a long range effort which also went narrowly wide. St Albans equalised though 5 minutes before the break when Richard Thomas got past John Martin down the right flank and sent in a near post cross which Lee Clarke ran on to and netted an unstoppable header from close range.

Unfortunately our second half performance was patchy and it was the home side who had the better chances to win the game. Wraight shot just wide on 53 minutes and Danny Gay had to be quick to close down and block a shot from Clarke on the hour. A further two chances fell to Saints in the closing stages, Clarke shooting over from a whipped in cross and Gough also shooting narrowly over a few minutes later.

Line-up:- Gay, Williams, Kerrigan, Adedeji, Matthews, Southon, Graham (McGowan 76), J Martin, John (Douglas 45), Brayley (Gooding 67), Keeling. Subs not used:- Locke, McCartney (GK)
