GMBT Semi Final

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me if the GBMT semi final is over two legs....?

I have a feeling its a one off.

If this is the case its a bit harsh on Ilford and ETFC (When not if they beat London APSA) that we have to play our semi-finals away therefore handing the advantage to Romford and Southend Manor.

Why is this....It should be two legs or at least be at a neutral ground..?

Mr Chairman....anyone...any thoughts.....

Actually I make you right ER......but that doesn't make it fair....how can you play a semi final away....?

Actually......contradicting myself a bit....Home Advantage (In our case) does count.....as we have recently beaten Concord,Sawbo and Romford at home.....

So if we was at home it WOULD be an advantage....

It should be on a neutral venue.......

MR CHAIRMAN....where are you...?

Hi Foxy I haven't disappeared but will answer your GBMT query - this competition and its predecessor, the Harry Fisher have always been straight knockout since inception in 1982 so why bring up the question now ? Also, there are many cups that are straight knockout ... here's something else.... If Burnham Ramblers were still in it they would, quite rightly, be playing at "Home" in the Final and that is accepted by us all . But, being the democratic person that I am I would advise anyone who wants to change the "rules" pertaining to our Cup competitions - put forward a rule change at the AGM, get a seconder and ... who knows ! By the way, it has nothing to do with this thread but I saw a Sawbo and Concord Cup match on Saturday and they were both a credit to the strength of this league , only 1-0 but a thrilling encounter !

I don't wish to be pedantic but last season's GBMT semi-finals WERE played over two legs.

Ilford 0-0 Enfield Town - 01/03/03

Southend Manor 1-4 Saffron Walden Town - 01/03/03

Saffron Walden Town 1-2 Southend Manor - 29/03/03

Enfield Town 2-1 Ilford - 12/4/03

Sorry Mr Chairman but that is how I remember it too! Having said that it isn't the end of life as we know it.

I am most grateful to Foxy, Ginger and Cleggy - please ..... no more ! for bringing this matter of the semi-final to my attention . Now I have looked back over all the years of this competition to find :-

1) No one still in the League Cup being allowed in the Harry Fisher.

2) All ties two legged with a third game as replay

3) All games two legged with penalties

4) A semi-final replay played one day before the final.

5) Semi-finals played over two legs including, as you quite rightly say, last years .

6) A winning goal scored by Bowers Utd in the 31st minute of extra-time when there had been no provision for a replay (in the days before penalties.)

It is a straight knock-out this year but as I said before, I bow to you learned ladies and gents who know their semi-finals when they see one !
