The Game

I was at the match saturday ...great atmospher to start with .

I've read most of the post about the game and as a town supporter i must say i was really disappointed with the players . Due to the pitch it became apparent it was never going to be a footballing game more like a 70's cup tie but the abbey players had more passion ...were first to most balls and i thought they actually deserved their win . Despite our possesion we rarely threatened and our midfield was non exsistent as were our forwards .Adam Gant was solid as normal as was Paul Cambell but the rest were not at the races .Cannot understand why Kevin Riley never started as it was definately his type of game . Agreed that the ref and their players antics didnt help but they were just 'playing the game' . We Have to learn from this because i expect the same to happen on sunday its going to be a battle .Id like to know what chopper thinks of these comments as a player

i think you've pretty much summed it up. when our pitch is like that you can't play football on it, there is no point trying!!

I think both teams were poor and town had more possesion. but when we do play like that we take our chances and always defend well. that obviously was important on the day!!!

Yes same for both sides, up until the first goal there was not one complaint about the ref? How many times is the ref mentioned when you lose? Ithink thats well documented is it not.

I'm not gloating, I'm happy like the rest of us here thats all. I will be more pleased if we win at Dagenham on Wednesday night to be honest as they are a big scalp, fat chance I know. If we eventually win the league then I might look back and remember the day, if not it's 3 points.

Apart from the disallowed goal when Hickman carried the ball over his own line, the blatant shirt-pulling (on Ndombe, I think) that should have been a penalty and your no 2 committing two red-card offences against Negus (kicking violently from behind, no attempt to play the ball) without even getting a yellow, you're right: I had no complaints at all prior to the first goal.

Thank you for that reasoned response. I know what I saw. Please expand on where you think I'm wrong.

The shirt pulling was right in front of me (on our left wing) as were the two fouls on Negus.

As for the disallowed goal, I've seen keepers drop the ball in those circumstances with no foul given. The fact that he held on but fell over the line shouldn't make a difference.

Which game were you playing in?

There is abslutely no way that goal should've been allowed to stand - and I'm quite suprised anyone would disagree.

More pleased to beat Dagenham because they ARE a big scalp.?? You becoming a right little wind-up. Your scamp.

You can't seriously concider playing Dagenham reserves in the Essex senior MORE important than a possible title decider.? Or is that because you know their no chance of promotion ,so maybe a senior cup MAY be the more important.
