Sawbridgeworth vs ETFC

Christian Wheeler. I don't think so. He is a good player but as with most of our team, beleive it or not many of us have and could play at a higher level but we seem to enjoy playing with each other too much (Oo err missus.) I will ask him at training.

Jim was talking to Mark Watters and myself after the game so is there truth that a £2.50 record Sawbo fee maybe in the offing for myself and a Big Mac meal for Mark?

Oh Well , admit it you were lucky. Yes the conditions played a big part as did the officials. In the first half I must admit we got the rub of the green but in the second some of the decisions were a bit puzzling.

That was our first game since 14/12 so we would have taken a point before the game.

I think it is a bit unfair to say we are a good sunday league side given that we came close to winning the league last year and gave you more than a match in the Cup. We play to our strengths which are a strong team ethos and high work rate. Pitches in this league dictate that this is normally the most effective tactic.

Oh, and as for the time wasting we were under the cosh for the last 20 mins so what would you do hurry things up a bit. I don't think so.

It was offside and Stef got the ball for the free kick But that's football.

Shaun. You post was sounding very reasonable until you said that Stef got the ball. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> The incident happened right in front of where i was standing. He got nowhere near the ball, believe me.I was a reckless tackle and born out of frustration.I think your left back 'stef' is an excellent player, and he has impressed me every time i see him play.I think it was just an uncharacteristic rush of blood.

Only one Big Mac meal, looks like he could handle more than that!

Mark is a very able Centre Half who has actually come into his own this season in that position after the retirement of the legend Martin Sedgwick. I think like a good opera singer he would loose something in his game if there was a little less timber.

The first 2 yards are in the head as they say. it's just the other 8 that bugger you up! as an old manager said to me about my legendary pace.

We have thrown our chances this season if you look at the amount of draws we have had. Many of them from a position of ascendency and it has cost us.

Personnally I think that our best games are always against you guys, can't believe that you don't challenge more strongly for the title every year.
Where does it go wrong, not a big enough squad?.

We are a very good team. That's the crux of it, team. We just do not have a regular bank of players to draw on week in week out. Our best 11 are a match for anyone. We should have beaten Brook House in the Vase for example. If we can keep a settled side we would be up there that is why we hopefully will challange for a cup or two again this year barring a late league surge and a few miracles.

The games against Town always bring the best out of us. The same with anyone else that has a large fan base. The more they berate you the more it seems to inspire us (Wisbeach , Tiptree)it's again that team ethos I spoke about before.

From personal experience I have played with the likes of Cove, Gerahty and Brotherton etc. in the past and I never want anyone to get the better of me more so an old team mate.

NO YOU CANT HES TO IMPORTANT TO US.

I have just had the time to properly read this entire thread and i have to say some of the comments coming from the enfield supporters are unbelivable.

The one that really gets me is being called a "SUNDAY MORNING SIDE".I know we havent had the best of seasons so far and have drawn alot of games which we should have won, but just because we are fit organised and have a good work ethic it certainly doesent make us limited nor make us a pub team i thought that were that were some of the requirements you needed at senior level?.

You might wanna have a talk to your defence because i think they could do with some organisation.

Also i cant comment on both sendings off although both thought they were very hard done by but the offside im lost for words how you can still say he was not offside is beyond me, your commitee were said to be embarresed when the goal went it as there was 3 of your players miles offside when the ball was played through.

As for the ref yeh he did lose it after originally doing well i thought, although he was great when he didnt send g hall off as the last man you werent complaining then, and the corner that wasent definately was as i was stood next to the defender when he flicked it off and thats exactly what the ref said i heard the noise so whatever that player wants to say he knows deep down that he flicked that off for a corner,

but just because you bring afew hundrend fans to game doesent mean you have the divine right to get every decision etc and its sad when the ref leaves the pitch that you have 10 or so of your fans screaming abuse at him stood next to there kids who are doing exactly the same as their parents..... what a shining example to set.

but i suppose no worse than your bench who are always at it.

so next time your on here complaining about other peoples fans i suggest you get your own house in order first.

rant over have a good day.

I thought that Sawbo were the probably best side I have seen this season and the game was probably the best I have seen as well this season. Hope you play like that(or better) against our title rivals

The ref was not too good but I agree that it is not good when fans stay behind to scream abuse. Many bad decisions either way.

Pikey is important to you, that's why I'd like to see him in an ETFC shirt

Cheers Sargeant out of all the posts you seem to be one of the only ones who posts with a non biased view.

Yeh we played ok sat it was just a shame we couldent hold out although i thought we defended quite well under the pressure and finishing with nine men, but hopefully thats the start of an upturn in our form we just need to push on now.

Your right the ref did deteriorate rapidily but we both know it doesent help with loads of your crowd and your bench screaming at him.

I think though that the Enfield side at the moment isnt a patch on what the were, they also seem to argue alot amongst themselves?.

One thing that I always find noticable when watching ETFC is how virtually every other team have such a good spirit about them. Instead of arguing with each other, I hear "bad luck" or "good effort" or "next time" or "heads up". The spirit in the Sawbo team was very good, no bickering or arguing. I wish we could be the same. It must be worth a few points at the end of the season. We do have a lot of skillful players but I wonder if this is the reason why there is so much arguing. Maybe more talented players have a tendancy to argue more? I dont know. I think ETFC need to look at sides such as yourselves for an example of how to stick together. Can skill and teamwork exist together? I think yes and I have seen many good players in other teams that play for the team and just get on with it.

Wheeler, how can you complain about the two sending-offs? They were outrageous tackles that got the punishment they deserved. Sawbo panicked as Enfield Town got back into the game and so resorted to thuggery.

Yes, ETFCs second goal was off-side. The goalscorer was ahead of play when the ball was passed. However, Sawbo was gifted TWO goals by the officials in the first half. The penalty was very dubious. How often do you see those given? Had the scores been 0-0 the ref would have waved play on in my opinion. Then Sawbo scored from a corner that never was. The ref was about to give a goal-kick until the linesman decided a non-existent deflection took place.

It would have been nice had the referee played the correct amount of stoppage time. It's all very well him HOLDING his watch when the keeper is wasting time, when players are down and when cards are being dished out but he's actually meant to STOP his watch. Because the referee lost control of the game he also took less notice of all the stoppages. As LS said previously we were denied 5mins+ of stoppage time.

Having said all that i think a draw was a fair result!!!

i CANNOT BE BOTHERED TO GO BACK THROUGH THIS THREAD BUT HOWEVER SIAD THAT sAWBO ARE A sUNDAY lEAGUE TEAM NEEDS LOCKING UP. oUR GAMES WITH THEM HAVE ALWAYS PROVED VERY TOUGH AND THEY DO HAVE GOOD SPIRIT IN THEIR SIDE. tHE KEEPER IS A GOOD BLOKE TOO! TO OVER CRITICISE THE GAME ON SATURDAY IS RIDICULOUS. iT WAS PLAYED IN APPALLING CONDITIONS. i DIDN'TY SEE THE OFFSIDE AS vERY lITTLE mISS hAPPY WAS BEING A PAIN IN THE BUM BUT A DRAW SEEMS TO BE A FAIR RESLUT. gOOD LUCK FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON sAWBO.

oH SH*T. i LEFT THE CAPS LOCK KEY ON!

If you look back at MY comments .I said that Sawbo reminded me of a VERY GOOD Sunday league side.As i played good quality Sunday league football for many years,i feel i'm justified in holding that opinion.

Wheeler,a few points.

1. I accept your statement that the corner for the second goal was correct,as you were a lot nearer to the incident.

2. You taklk about ETFC fans showing bias. Then say that you thought the two sendings off were harsh. Both were awful challenges,as was Greame Hall's (which i stated in my original post).

3. It wasn't '10 or so' ETFC fans that were shouting at the ref when he walked off the pitch at half time.It was TWO fans.I was standing on the other side of the tunnel,no more than five yards away at the time. One of the fans just had a moan at the ref.The other fan did get out of his pram a bit, and go over the top.

4. finally you say about one of your players.NO YOU CAN'T HAVE HIM....If a club did make an offical seven day approach for one of your players (as they not on a proffesional contact)there nothing that can be done to stop the player moving, exept try to persuade him to stay in the 7 day period. The same would apply if someone approached an ETFC player..Ie..it's not up to the club ,its up to the individual player to decide if he stays or accepts the transfer.

Lovely stuff your more than entitled to your opinions thats what this forum is all about although i still feel a good one or not that a sunday league side is abit harsh especailly the problems we always cause your defence.

1. defo a corner i wouldent lie it came off the back of his head.

2. i didnt say they were harsh i said i cant comment on them because i didnt really see either of them but i said they both felt harshly treated, and yes you are correct g halls tackle was not a good one so im glad we agree on that.

3. well there was more than afew but theres no point splitting hairs i just thought it was a poor example to the kids there and if you were standing that close you would of heard me say so at the time.

4.and that comment was made as a joke, me and the big man have played more or less at every club together since we was nine and no one rates him more highly than me so obviously id want hime to stay but on the other hand i know the rules so if he wanted to leave he would.

but all in all it was an entertaining game.

I agree with Wheeler on a couple of those points. Sawbo are far better than a good Sunday League side and although it was LS's opinion, that comment is an insult. They finished above us last year and have always given us a tough game. I wasn't aat the halfway line to see the Twon fan giving the ref gip. However, I have seen enough of Town fans going way OTT and throwing abuse at the officials. It is not on and when there is bad language used it is even worse. My four year old was with meon Saturday and enjoyed the game. However, how do you think it would look if she picked up this gutter talk?

Happy one thanks for that because thats how i saw it aswell as an insult because as we all know pub teams are much better than us but no seriosly i just thought that was abit harsh.

and yeh its no big deal people have a go at officials and what not, i certainly do but you get people on here moaning about other peoples supporters and i just stated that its not all one sided.

I remember afew years ago when that idiot spat at that linesman over our place now that was a big deal as its disgusting.
