Gary Hill? no, No, NO!

First of all, I'd like to thank Andy for seven glorious years.

But now we have to move on. We are now a big club and should advertise.

IGNORE GARY HILL - His appointment would be a disaster.

Why do you want Hill? Ok, he had some success with Dagenham, but at Hornchurch they had money and that does not prove his managerial prowess. I have no doubt he can motivate players but his history also seems to suggest he can alienate them too. We need to move forward and I don't feel that Gary Hill is the answer. How about Gordon Strachan!!!!!

I'm not saying that Hill is the answer by any stretch of the imagination. However he only had half a season with Hornchurch..... and they weren't doing too badly when it all went t**s up were they? His record at Dagenham was pretty useful as well!

OK, so he appears to be a manager who is used to spending cash, and that is something we haven't got an awful lot of at the moment, but he is vastly experienced at this level and he is a good motivator of players. I dont think it would be as disasterous as some would have us believe.

That said, I dont think we could afford him, as it doesn't take Brain of Britain to work out that his contract at Hornchurch must have been way over our budget! (I was given a figure.... but didn't believe it!)

Anyway Rodney Marsh is looking for a job, what about him!

And what about Gary Aldous? Is he available?

Dagenham didn't have loads of cash at first - the cup runs under his management paid the way for 'almost promotion'.

If it wasn't for dodgy Boston dealings, he would have 'conference winner' on his CV.

I disagree with the claims of Garry Hill spending money a club doesn't have. I don't see Dagenham being in financial trouble & Hornchurch had the money until their backer's empire collapsed.

Time will tell.

Unless garry was invited to the game last night.... Which I doubt

I find his attendance distasteful.

And not the actions of a man I would want to manage the club.

If Brian wants to employ Garry I have no real problems with it as his record at this level is better than most, but to appear whilst the previous manager( who is the best Fleet manager in living history) is being given his last rites is appalling,

Garry Hill was on a quoted £80k at the Daggers and was alleged to have significantly improved that at Hornchurch ( See this report).

He took over a team that had been built by Ted Hardy and had finished 3rd in the Ryman and actually added only a couple of players (Vickers, McDougald) before leading them to the Ryman title. Definately a motivator then.

We did make significant money from the cup runs but a lot of this got put into getting the ground FL graded. Probably the most significant player Garry brought in was Mark Stein which was not a big leap of faith I would say, although he did sign Chris Moore in the middle of last season.

The core of the team that won the Ryman were still with the club until the close season of 2003 and had the cup runs and near misses for promotion. Only then did Garry dismantle and try to really rebuild, taking Jimmy Jackson amd Mark Bentley from you, the Pipers, Leon Btraithwaite etc. We then finished 13th and none of those players bought in during the Summer 2003 are still at the club.

We ran over budget last season and are now projecting being £80k in the red this season as all the cup money is gone!

Garry is a good man to get the best out of a squad, but not that good a judge of players really I think.

Given Hornchurch's budget at the start of this season I reckon my Granny could have got a team to the top of the Conference South. I think its more a testiment to Garry that they are still 5th as he leaves actually, again getting the best out of players that were already there.

Does it really matter what he has or hasn't achieved in the past, if he gets the job I'll support him and if he doesn't get the job then I don't give a t*ss about him.

Same goes to all other candidates.

We won't get the best manager in the world, hopefully we will get the best manager we can afford...more important is to not get a manager we can't afford.
