Ryman get extra promotion spot?

Recommended Posts

from the ryman site

All div 2 clubs received a letter from Nick Robinson. The relevant paragraph reads

"I am delighted to be able to tell you that at a recent meeting of the Leagues Committee it was agreed that the first two clubs in Division Two would be eligible for promotion at the end of this season although this would revert to one club in subsequent seasons"

Whether this means that two clubs will definitely get promotion or two clubs will be in the playoffs is unclear.

I have also received this message via the F A but would correct the previous person in that the number of Leagues with promotion candidates is 13 not 15 as the Northern and Eastern have none. So this Isthmian League Div 2 " news" will now make it 14 if its going to be allowed and I am afraid that it might just be as nothing shocks me anymore in this crazy world !!!!

I have not been given any further info on " play-offs" as I write .

Let's face it...the Ryman League couldn't even work out their own play-offs for last season - the Friday night before the final games still had Bedford playing somewhere else - then what chance the rest of us? I am sure Mr Brian (Brain in the Non-League Paper, freudian slip?) Barwick the new head honcho at the FA speaks a good game, but unless I am proved wrong I feel the struggle will get harder for us at this level, and hey can we have our three points at Brentwood back please?

Thanks for this Mr Chairman.

I firmly believe that the ESL should also put in for two promotion places. So should the CCL and the SMSL. What about all the other leagues?

Why not promote every team going?

Why has the Ryman League been given special preference? Does anybody know?

dear confused

your state of mind has nothing to do with this particular issue, you have been like that for years.

e.g. the wife sends you out to buy a car, you come back with a skip!

you then take said vehicle and drive from Enfield to Brentwood, via palmers green !

I still don't see why the 14 or 15 promotion applicants have to play off for the 8 available promotion places.

Surely excellence and endeavour should be rewarded more than failure. Why not automatically promote all 14/15 league winners (subject to grading and actually applying) and make the bottom 2 in the Step 4 leagues play-off to avoid relegation?

This strikes me as natural justice.

Invisible - u numpty, how would suggest a stupid idea work? It is far too logical for the sweet FA to consider.

Now go and take a cold shower and no more common sense ideas or you will get a 14 day ban from the message boards!

Not wishing to go over all ground, but if Ryman 2 as level 5 they should go through the play off process on equal basis to all other Level 5 Leagues.

Under the new pyramid stucture have the Ryman got the right to make this offer on their own back. After all what happens if one of them teams is loacted in a Southern Div1 East area?

This sounds like Ryman League bullsh1t to me. I reckon they have fired off a letter somewhat prematurely, without thinking it through or geting the OK from the FA.

Why they did it is totally beyond me, unless it's a cynical loy to keep Ryman 2 interesting until the end of the season. More likely they have misunderstood or have poorly represented the rule allowing second place clubs to apply if the champions don't/can't.

Whatever, looks like the usual shambles. Perhaps the Ryman League will mount an expensive legal action..........

Please forgive "throwing the cat amongst the pigeons", but I thought this arrangement was common knowledge - at least, ever since the Isthmian Management Committee used exactly this concept as a sweetener¹ to the remaining Division Two clubs (when the Isthmian's own restructuring occurred prior to the National reorganisation).

Put another way, having been aware of the arrangement since some time in 2002, I was immensely surprised to see that it was "being ratified" only this week !

¹- sweetener - to make up for Isthmian Two being "demoted" to the same level as the other Isthmian feeders !

Can't see it myself. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/diskussion.gif" alt="" />They have been lobbying hard that they deserve more than one place because they are so good!

Will the second placed team in the Ryman be eligible for a bye,or will they have to play one of the play-off games?A situation may well occur where the second placed Ryman team recieves a 'bye',but the winners of the ESL may have to play a play-off game...Crazy.

Could the two Ryman teams be drawn against each other?

This is micky mouse of the highest order. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/doah.gif" alt="" />
