Thanet Gazette, 23/12/05

MFC Forever

Recommended Posts

There is some team news in the latest Gazette which I thought I would share for those of you who do not buy or unable to get the paper.

It tells of how Margate have this week put in extra traoining sessions ahead of our Boxing Day match with Folkestone and that today will be the third of the week. CK admits "derbys are funny old games, they can go either way... it doesn't matter who has the best side." Later he continues to say that the league position he expected is not "dissimilar to the position we are in"

In other team news, Charlie Mitten's scan revealed the problem being the nerves in his back but the injury 'wasn't long term'. Ck comments of the recent departure of the three players saying Corbett turned up on the odd occasion and "didn't see a lot of him" and Remy didn't settle in the squad. Finally an approachg has been made for Paul Lamb but CK has not yet spoken to him so this may materialise into nothing!

Hope this is been useful to those mentioned earlier, and please add anything you think should be mentioned.

I heard he was in the frame, however I thought it was a right back that was needed.Allmam is doing a a sterling job there or maybe a switch to the right back position by him is possible.Lambs all left footed .Dont suppose Allman is as left footed as Paul is.

Lambie maybe is a little long in the tooth, but playing at the back, with his quality and determination, he would do us proud. Maybe his influence/experience is what is needed in and amongst the youngsters.

If CK really is serious about Lamby it is probably because nobody currently in the squad looks at all happy in the left 'wing-back' position.

Allman looks well worth his place in defence, so if a wing-back is recruited someone will have to step down. Keister and Edwards have both looked very reliable this season, so I guess that leaves Donovan. He has had some solid games, but sometimes looks hung over.

When Greg returns on the right side where will Sesay play? I would like to see him getting forward, as he is so mobile. With him and Brayley as forward playing midfielders we would then need a strong defending midfielder, which could be Deen.

So there you have it:

Keeper: new bloke

Backs: Keister-Edwards-Allman

Wing: Oates-Lamb(?)

Midfield: Sesay-Deen-Brayley

Forwards: Amoako-Stowe

Hey! I have left out some top midfielders(Standen/Hilaire/Gradley/McGowan). Perhaps we have an embarrassment of riches in that area. Or should we play to our strengths and go 4-4-2?

I think, if Lamby does join us, it may prove to be the end for Oates. I think Lamby will play on the left with Allman moving to the right. If this is the case, I feel sorry for Sesay. I think he has been one of our best players thus far this season. Anyway, we will see.

The midfield certainly does look the strongest part of the squad now. However, to go 4-4-2 would be nice but at this stage of the season is it a good idea to change tactics with most of the squad recruited with a 5-3-2 formation.

I would say however that Sesay should play in midfield on the right where he would be most effective. His time spent at wingback has not been wasted as this has taught him the importance of defending and team play which will be good for both him and the team.

They should push Sesay up front as wing man wide where he can attack defenders.Thats what he's good at.In that position you will really see him flourish.Lambie may be a bit older now but just for his season he would do a good job I feel.I Am not saying that for next year a younger version or an ex league player with experience(though he would probably be in the same age group too as Lambie),shouldnt be sought, but would Lamb sign for us if it was only for this season,if indeed it comes to that. He's a solid full back and knows the ropes. He has shone for Invicta in this very league this season too. I Wouldnt say it was a backward step for this season to acquire his services but definately it COULD be for next season,if as mentioned we are to make a full assault on the league title next year.Lets face it even this year the play-offs,though unlikely, are still not out of reach.

I agree with Zhukov-we either need young players like Sesay who will improve, or quality sufficient for conf.national/ south-Brayley ,Deen etc.

I don't see that Lamb falls into either category,so not overly exited by the prospect.

We have better wiley old campaigners in Edwards, Mitten and Keister so what can Lamb offer .

Sends out wrong signals if you ask me

I am not that exited about Lamby rejoining, but he has played at a higher level. With us just for those that dont know as for Sesay he is obviously staying. Therefore will be playing in a more natural position, he is the future for mfc. Lamb will fill the gap this season to keep us up.He never had pace, so we wont miss that. But hopefully he still has the know how.(if he signs)

If you look at the stats for the league table and in particular, the goals for and the goals against, our problem is scoring goals.

Defensively, we have Sesay, Bill, JK, James Donovan, Kola, Anthony Allman and Greg. Also Hasim can play at the back if required and CK has been able to get loan players like James Smith who have performed well for us. I suppose it depends upon the finances available for the size of the squad but if players have to leave to accommodate new signings then the new players should be better than those we already have and in the positons that we really need.
