"Chelmo" 2 v Ricay 1

Recommended Posts

You can't expect to not turn up for 70 minutes and get something from the game. It is increasingly frustrating to see what I consider to be quite a talented squad fail to win against opposition teams of average ability but who seem to be better organised and better motivated. It's as clear as day for me.

Well that is a nice photo of a quarter of the crowd. Speilberg would be pleased...

Of course Mr. Dillinger would like it to be known that there were no supporters there. he would have us believe that 3,000...sorry 4,000 odd (the official attendance was quoted as 2,998 Mr Dillinger - before you post such figures, I should check with your club officials), we're all Chelmsford supporters....

Funny how they all came out of the wood work after 8 years with no ground.

Funny Tom, when we win you never make a sound about Justin but when we lose you get personal.

Perhaps you would like to explain why? Or maybe come down on Thursday and make your views known to Justin himself.

Fair play to Chelmsford, this was their day, let them enjoy it - there's no way they'll enjoy even half that crowd size week in week out, this was a one-off occasion and there team rose to it, while we didn't really turn up. Too many of our lads had a serious off day and though a draw would've been fitting, it would hardly have been justified if we'd somehow sneaked a point out of Melbourne Park.

Off the pitch, the main stand looks impressive and I got a decent view standing amongst the cheap seats directly opposite, but whilst its a good effort to put mobile terraces behind each goal, any singing from both fans just disappeared into thin air, so they'll have a job creating much atmosphere there. But full credit to CCFC in building what they have at MP - I hardly recognized the place from when I used to visit mates who live in Bounderby Grove overlooking the pitch ! And though the queue was the length of two football pitches when we arrived today, we were through the turnstiles in a few minutes and even got a programme too...

As I say today was City's day, shame we couldn't spoil it, but the first goal was more than worthy of being the first at the new ground, one of the best strikes I've ever seen against us. Well done chaps, enjoy your new era.

gazza minus Hampton.......last game you saw us put in a well motivated 110% performance...please??

Hmmmmm....Braintree was quite a good game.....Oh we didn't win that one....and you weren't there if memory serves....funny old game, eh.

But your previous criticism was something even more personal, if momory serves (again).

The thing is Tom, you come on here making the allegations about motivation and performance and pick the games that suit you. I use Hampton as an example of Justin (and the players) doing their jobs. Yesterday, what I say was some players not doing their jobs. I did see both the assisstant manager and the manager encourage our team to do better from the touchline but hey, perhaps your explaination is a much better explaination as to why individual players were not as good as we have seen them in the past...It's easy, you don't like the manager so lets blame him....I mean, that is the real reason isn't it? Nothing about our injuries and suspensions. No reference to our battling performances with half a squad against Heybridge (of course, no motivation there). Yes, we have had some poor performances as well (East Thurrock comes to mind) but there are some other reasons other than "the manager"....

The match was a big one for Chelmsford and obviously they were up for it. Coming back to their home town was always going to be a motivator to pull out a one off effort. The game was hyped up before for weeks by the Chelmsford officials through the publicity machine and credit to them, it turned out to be more like a cup final then a league game. For us, it shouldn't have been like that but it was. In fact, the game was just as much a triumph for the Chelmsford publicity machine than the team...maybe more so...

And I would expect JE, MJ and all the management to be dissapointed with our performance and do something about it for next Saturday. I expect all the players to do something about their performance as well and twat Slough about the place...

My views are this:

Chelmsford are not a very good team, but what they lack in quality they made up for yesterday in energy and they never gave our players time to get the ball down and pass so we resorted to the good old lump it forward method. Their number 9 was superb yesterday and had chemsford had the players that could provide him with the balls into the box he would have scored more. His first goal was worthy of winning any game.

Our man of the match was Millard just for the 3 saves he made in a row. When you name your own keeper as MOM it speaks volumes.

I felt that our whole performance was summed up by all four of our midfielders, any of whom could have been subbed. That was Tark's worst game for the club, Warren seriously needs to learn to tackle with his studs not facing upwards and learn to jump without swinging his elbows in all directions as he is making the ref's decions too easy. Collins just couldnt get into the game. Gamo ran alot but as soon as we started lumping it forward he was out of the game, to his credit he looked better when out on the right. I think in past games when Justin has made changes during a game its made a difference but yesterday Dorms and Leon made no impact. For me we lost the game in midfield as we just didnt compete. Nathan and Hockers will score goals but yesterday they had no service and you cant expect them to produce something out of nothing as much as we do.

This business of Justin not being able to motivate is rubbish. There are some occasions in football when the situation should motivate a player without the manager, and to play in front of 3,000 people away from home in a local derby is motivation enough. Justin can only ask the players to play in the way he has asked them and practiced in training. I doubt what we saw yesterday was anything like what was practiced or planned and like whats been said already, we had too many players fail to perform on the same day.

Well done to Chelmsford.

A good point and well made...put better than I have or could....

I'll also support the last sentiment as well...

Dillinger says our turn out off the pitch was piss poor. How would he know how many of us there were amongst the 2500 people who will never be seen at that ground again. And if there were hundreds of people locked out, why were they still letting people in at half time.

How many do you think we'll get for our home game next Saturday against Bromley, then.....

"Funny how they all came out of the wood work after 8 years with no ground."

Is it really that funny, Gazza. Wouldn't the situation have been the same for Billericay had they played in Chelmsford for the past 8 years and played their first game yesterday at a new ground in Billericay AGAINST Chelmsford? The problem has been, at least in part, in my view, that many fans and potential sponsors didn't feel that it was "their" club anymore when we left the town....

Sometimes in football you just know a game is won way before a ball is kicked. Chelmsford would've beaten anyone yesterday, it was just that kind of day for them. Saying that, it doesn't excuse what was an awful performance. I don't beleive Chelmsford are a better side than us, but they played with passion, belief and thier will to win was stronger than ours. No complaints, they won and deserved too.

As for Melbourne Park, it's their home and I'm sure they'll enjoy it. I'm led to believe that the person who dropped the pin in the second half was ecorted out of the ground for breach of the peace!

I too believe Chelmsford deserved the win. From the off (ball in net) they never let us play and closed us down at every oppotunity. I do however feel we let ourselves down somewhat and genuinely believe we have better players, but that does not automatically give us a right to win games. Chelmsford battled, harrassed and again on the day were the better team, not a bad goal either.

We need to be more ruthless in a consistent way. Last season we went on a run after new year, methinks we are going to need to start that run very soon to achieve a playoff spot.

I guess mom from a Town perspective has to be Millard, as he made 3 saves in virtually as many seconds!!

Best part of the day in hindsight was being in The Railway Tavern at 11am - door swing open at 12.30 with QPR fans who had missed their train, and then 15 mins later a Blackburn fan turns up lost on his way to Portsmouth game! I was waiting for Helen Chamberlain to walk in next ! But the way our day went it would have been Mr Bloody Bean!!

Not a lot left to say really, it was a dreadful performance. It reminded me of the Braintree away game from last season and if we had played a better team yesterday we would have been thumped. We got a reaction after that Braintree game, so I hope the same will happen this time. The players let the management and fans down, but I'm confident they will atone for it. I was pleased to see Justin go for it and play 3 up front in the second half, but the players just didn't look up for it. As already said the players should have been motivated by the occasion and the lack of effort was very surprising and disappointing. We lacked a leader again yesterday(apart from Trott) and Warren Ryan hasn't really made up for his sending off yet. The playoffs are looking difficult now unless we get a run together. It took 71 points to get in the playoffs last season, but it will probably be more this season. We are going to need at least 2 points a game now. It looks like failure to get enough points against the lower sides may cost us again. We need 3 points in games like Slough away and Folkestone at home to make the playoffs, which with the players we've got we should really be getting.

You can't take anything away from Chelmsford they deserved it, I thought the stand and facilities were impressive. The main downer was paying 3 quid for an average programme, when it's only 3 pounds at Old Trafford. Obviously cashing in on the supporters while they are still there.
