Billericay 2-2 Bromley

Recommended Posts

Once again didn't play for the full 90 mins and were made to pay for it... Joe Flack gave us the lead in the first half and we've had much the better of the play before half time. 2nd half they've come out well but missed 2 good chances and Danny Brown has made it 2-0.

Absolutely stone cold penalty turned down when the 5 palmed the ball away from Dorms' head at a corner but the referee missed it... They've pulled a goal back when McDonnell scored after a shot hit the post. We've gone to pieces a bit and they've got the inevitable equaliser.

Dale

Henty Brown Macca Kerrigan

Simmons Hunter Dorms Hodges

Elder Fllack

Subs:

D.Collins for Simmons

Poole for Flack

SNU: A.Collins, Colton, Millard

Missing today:

Lay (has apparently started doing a bit of running, but it's still very sore)

Pat (Suspended - apparently has had an cartlidge operation on his knee and may be out for some time anyway)

Ryan (Suspended, one game left to serve)

Gamo (ill)

Forbes (Thigh strain, hopefully back for Fisher game)

Need to play for 90 minutes not 70

Very poor last 20 from front to back - far too many players ambling about

IMHO had we had an lack of experience/leadership at the back which has cost us three points

Having said that I'm confident we have enough to progress to the league cup final. Let's hope so, looking fwd to next couple of games.

Vast understatement in my opinion. We totally dominated the first half. You could tell that Bromley had a rocket under them at half-time and we failed to respond. Our second goal should have knocked the wind out of them but but their heads didn't drop, which is, I think, what we were relying on too much. They gave us a lesson in playing for the full 90 minutes, not 45. Missed chances in first half proved expensive. D.Collins failed to impress & we desperately missed Gamo's tenacity.
So now we look up at Chelmsford. Not pleasant is it?

Chelmsford? Above Below, Irrelevant.

Not our best performance, and the management were disappointed for the supporters.

In discussion, it was mentioned that our support of late, including this game, has been excellent, and it was a shame that we never got the result the support deserved.

I, like jl, feel we will do better it the remaining games, I know we have, and expect, a stronger resolve from now on.

Come on you Blues.

Unfortunately we've got a bit of form in the going 2-0 up and drawing 2-2 stakes...

One thing we need to get sorted for next season is a settled centre back pairing - we've not really had that this season. Last year we used just 5 defenders for pretty much all season, this season more than double that number. I thought Brown did ok yesterday, but it'll take a couple of games for him to settle into the way we play. Spoke to him afterwards and he said he wasn't used to playing such a high line.

Good to see Flack in the team again, we look a lot more potent up front with him in the starting XI.

Enjoyed the game yesterday. A game of two halves as they say. Our keeper made a terrific save in the second half. As the game was nearing the end we fancied us grabbing a winner though i have to admit. Good atmosphere and a great tea bar. Decent sized crowd always makes a difference and we take a fair few away so it helps. Enjoyed my visit.

Good luck for the rest of the season apart from the league cup of course.

Thanks Wayne.

I think the day was a success for the club to be honest, despite the result. Off the pitch we're doing the little things well, even though I was having trouble with my mic and getting the Bromley goalscorer wrong but they're things that we (I) will improve on...

Overall, off the pitch we continue to move forward and be successful and make "new" friends and supporters.

I wouldn't necessarily agree that the whole team was poor for the last 20 mins. I think it was mainly a lack of concentration at the back that cost us again. I think with the exception of Kerrigan our defence wasn't particularly solid yesterday and we desperately missed Pat in the middle. Macca in my opinion is better at right back. They didn't have loads to do for the first 70 mins, similar to Hendon away and Leyton at home and then we fell apart. Our defence looked worryingly shaky at set pieces.

Thought our midfield played well yesterday, would probably give Dormer MOM. I'm confident of beating Bromley over 180 mins, as for most of yesterday we showed we were the better side, but if we don't keep our concentration for the whole of the two legs then we won't make the final.

We again created some good chances yesterday and if we had got the blatant pen it probably would have been a different result.

a fair result I feel. First half was all ours and the second was all theirs. You could tell Dan Brown wasnt used to playing a high line as Matty Jones had to keep on telling him to push up but for that shows that no one on the pitch is taking control of the back four. As a defensive line they are almost silent at times. One of the reasons Trotty made such an impact was he bossed them about. Macca needs to take this on. Thought Nathan ran his socks off but he missed a 100% sitter in the first half.

Not sure why the Bromley bench were so annoyed with Hodges, looked like a 50/50 to me, but even if that was not the case a manager should not be allowed to walk on the pitch and call an opposing teams player the "c-word", it was an easy decision for the ref to make but he did bottle it.

Gazza, it doesnt really matter who bosses them, it just needs someone to do it. When Mel was in he goal he used to boss them but Dale is also very quiet. One thing is for sure we cant have the manager having to puch the defence up from the dug out all the time. I'm not too concerned to be honest, it was Dans first game and if he is any good he will be able to adapt to playing a higher line.

Cracking goal he scored, certainly wouldnt have put money on him scoring with his feet!

Not really got much to add. i thought danny brown was solid for 60-70 minutes and i dont remember him not winning a header during that first hour and a bit.

First goal was superb football by the blues. Some of hodges touches were quality.

IMO i dont think simmons should of came of collins and hodges should. For the pure fitness factor. I certainly think today and tomorrow matt will absolutly drill the players about concentrating throughout the game and not switching off, and if we get a 2-0 lead not to stop but to keep pushing for another and keep playing football.

I think we will win the semi final.

Fair result in the end due to the ineptness of Dale, i think that was the worst goalkeeping performance i have seen for a while. Perhaps he has been on good form, but the writing was on the wall just before half-time when he suddenly couldn't kick.

I don't like singling individuals out but his performance really cost us, as the defence couldn't trust him, and everytime Bromley had a corner they knew they just had to put him under pressure.

Our defence has been pretty solid this season and its a shame that performance didn't mirror it.

I though Flack was superb, Nathan's work rate is amazing along with good performances from Lee and Jamie.

Hope Ricky's back for the cup matches against them!!!

yeah a 500+ crowd is excellent for a mid-table side. Must have been galling to see Bromley grab a draw from the jaws of defeat.

Good support isnt only about figures Ozzy.

being the other side of the world you can never get a true reflection of things and tend to rely on other peoples opinions or stats.

I thought our problems started to arise when John Simmonds was substituted by Dave Collins, not so much the change of personnel but change of shape. We then seemed to have 3 left sided midfielders and played very narrow with no width. This made it difficult for full backs to get forward or to be protected. Not sure where Collins was playing, he seemed a bit invisible. The formation all seemed a bit confusing.

I did think Lee was excellent in the first half and I feel he could be better controlling the game from the middle and let Jamie go back to left wing.

Fantastic energy from Nathan again, he doesn't stop running, takes his knocks without complaint and is a great example of application to the team.
