Programme collectors – please note – there weren’t any.

In torrential rain, Urchins dictated the first half, and Ramsgate did not get in a single shot on target. Billy Holland made a great opening for Ross Wareham whose hard drive was well saved by May, and when Tomlinson put Lee away on the left, he neatly sidestepped Bernard and sent over an excellent cross which Schultz managed to deflect away from Holland. When May mistimed his catch from a Fletcher centre the ball ran out to Holland who touched it back to Tiffin, whose first time cross back into the goalmouth was turned around the post by Hill. Two successive corners were cleared and then Eliot pumped a good through ball to Holland who seemed to be pulled down in full flight inside the area, a corner being awarded instead of the anticipated penalty. Holland laid a good pass out to Lee who cut in and hammered his shot past May but into the side netting.

Second half and the rain came down so hard that the seagulls flew off and took shelter in the harbour. Urchins lost their rhythm somewhat, and struggled to cope with the near gale that accompanied the downpour, although McFarlane went close with a header from a Parker corner.

A Tomlinson free kick eluded the defence but drifted wide of the post, and Collier was then called into action to fingertip a hard shot from Yarney over the bar. The build up to the only goal of the match started on 67 minutes when Fletcher and Pettit went up for a cross from the left. Pettit handled and then collided with Styles, both needing treatment. Richard Harper soon got Styles on his feet and then spent another five minutes reviving the Ramsgate player, who was able eventually to walk off. The linesman, 40 yards away, had signalled a penalty. The referee, less than five yards away, had apparently seen nothing, but took the linesman’s advice. On 73 minutes the Ramsgate substitute stepped up, and despite a full length dive by Collier, the ball ended up in the net for a more than somewhat controversial goal.

Urchins, with the rain now cascading down in bucketfuls, tried hard to undo the blatant injustice, and Sadler twice had a chance to run clear, but lacked the pace to get away. Right on 90 minutes a vicious 30 yard shot from Gareth Thomas was brilliantly saved by the Ramsgate keeper (they used three keepers during the match), who first punched the ball away and then grabbed the rebound right under the bar. The referee allowed just 24 seconds of stoppage time.

Overall impressions – an excellent first half performance, on an excellent pitch, with some ESL standard refereeing in the second half.

Well the ref certainly made a few boobs, the biggest of course was the pen for handball by a Ram !

The most important thing was that the player who was down for about 8 minutes, got up and recovered, thanks to Dickie.

Nevertheless a good crowd of people and in driving rain.

The pitch, like all the rest, needing the rain, but while we are playing?

Anyway, methinks it answered a few questions, and was certainly a forerunner to the Winter months.

A few rested players, but Andy Tomlinson my MOM.

Yes, it looked a very nasty injury and Richard Harper proved once again what a great physio he is.

The referee added on just 24 seconds stoppage time.

For me the highlight of the match was the great shot by Gareth Thomas, and overall the all round display by Andy Tomlinson.

I went into the town after the match, and it was raining so hard that the seagulls were sheltering under umbrellas.

danny didn't play today gal and the result wasn't reflective of the game...for obvious reasons (given the weather) the game was very scrappy but by and large we scrapped better than they did..

nice welcome from nice people and some good banter from us all huddled under the main stand seeking body heat...(pity you weren't there bitchypoo..)

don't think either manager learned much today...

Oh sorry Uncie. Thought Danny boy was. If only i could have joined your huddle....

The result by the sounds of things will be attributed to the weather, bleedin cats and dogs!

the result was the result and will be attributed to a penalty which was converted well...we never blame the weather as its the same for both sides..

we do however complain about it in the stands...

didn't think danny came on today but daggsy is usually right so I must have been preoccupied with our guests..

I'd blame the weather, the ref, the lino, the penalty spot for being too close to goal.......Glad you found Ramsgate hospitable. They don't get good press from certain quarters but i find them ok.

Tell me how you managed to get Danny boy? Loan?

Danny Glozier was playing well for the Angels while we had him on loan. I was peeved he got recalled to G&N but that's football. It was thought he'd end up playing at Conf S level, so well done.
