Paul Robinson was upset that he was blamed for the second goal

I heard on the radio yesterday that Paul Robinson felt that he was unfairly criticised for the own goal by Gary Neville.

Well I just wanted to say to fellow football fans. Hard luck Paul it was your fault. Your first task is to protect the goal not take a wild swing at a slow moving ball then get upset when people, like me, say "you didn't ought to have done that Paul".

Second goal your fault and nobody else's. When will England get another goalie like Banksy or Seaman (Seaman in his prime). These players earn a fortune and cant take the heat.

Oh dear! How Sad! Never mind!.

But I for one do mind and Robinson should not play in goal again for England until he learns to take responsibility for appalling play!

There got that of my chest. Does the goalies union have anything to say. Smallsy - Chopper? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/boxing.gif" alt="" />

Well as a Robinson fan - yes it was a bad decision but do you really want David James back? Let's get this in perspective bad decision which led to a goal but he then made an excellent save later. I don't mind trying out that other keeper that recently polayed for England in a friendly but I beg you no more David James - he would have struggled to get a game for Hullbridge Sports and made Chopper look England quality.

What was Robinson supposed to do? He couldn't take a touch on the ball because a forward was running at him from a few feet away.Maybe he could have quickly controlled the ball and toe pocked it off for a throw in.Who's to say the divert wouldn't have rendered useless, his attenpted controlling of the ball?

What I don't understand is why people are saying that it is or is not Robbo's fault. There are shades of grey here. Robbo should keep his area tidy-partle y to blame but Neville should not have back passed towards the goal. As for Robbo keeping his eye on the ball, once his mind is made up at what point he will kick the ball, surely he should be looking to where he intends it to end.
