Unlucky

Well I though the Fleet were a tad unlucky tonight. Both Margate goals were flukes. The Fleet defence looked strong and will jell over the next few matches. The squad is stronger than ever. So dont despair, expect results to improve. Things didnt go well more by luck than anything. If we carry on as we did for the first sixty mins points will come.

yeah i agree, performances are looking up, but these need to bring results!! I think the sending off was fair today, he blatantly tripped the palyer over for his second yellow, but not sure about his first yellow! Stevenage is a MUST win game, we lose to Stevenage we fall right into the relegation zone. Todays performance did look promising, great debut from Pennock and White played well too! although my MOTM was MArk Bentley once again, played his socks off, ran rings around the defence, he some good signing!

COME ON THE REDS

Ps....Margate beaten us 3/3 now , New years they deserved it, no complaints! FA cup, was even game, shame about the lino. Today i thought a draw would have been a fair result because both had even chances, both played equally well. Lets do them twice next season

Margate deserved nothing. Ok maybe a half a point (for commitment). They never really got close to the Fleet goal. The first goal was a deflected clearance and the second a cross. I hate to say it but maybe the keeper was at fault both times. Sending off was fair. I was dissapointed that Tostao never got a chance and also that Liam went off. Get behind them Saturday. Late shift beckons.

Conditions didnt help both sides but i felt a draw would've been a fairer reflection of the performance. I had to agree with the adjudicator tonight in that i thought Ben Smith was excellent yet my MOM was Chris Giles. We should pull out all the stops in the summer to sign him as he's a first class player. The left wing area still seems a problem area as we dont seem to be using the wing effectively. Still too many balls are played into channels. Havent seen Skins make one overlapping run this season whereas last yr him and Jacko were an awesome attacking combo while the Beast seems awesome at everything bar finishing. I know they've been injured but we havent had a goal out of either of them(Beast and Che) since October and this needs to change quickly. If i was Andy id perhaps take a punt and play Chris Giles up front. I actually thought he was our best striker today and he knows where the goal is unlike the Beast who can be erratic at best. Think Margate arent a bad side and i liked Sam Sodje. Shame we didnt sign him as he looks a very dynamic center half.

Downbeat but still hopeful....Up the Fleet.

Couldn't make tonights game due to work, so listened to the commentary on Radio Kent on A.M., what a waste of time, crap reception. From Gravesend I could get a better signal from BBC Radio Oxford!

However, sounds like the performance tonight was better than in previous matches, encouraging signs?? Unlucky or not however they have quite simply got to start picking up points. Leigh RMI are now just 1 point behind with a game in hand. Obvious I know, but the spectre of relegation looms ever closer.

Margate defended well and we were a little lightweight up front - Che has his moments (and probably isnt 100% fit) but wont score 20 goals a season at this level. The other options are all young and still learning (and thats no criticism).

A hairline decision for Giles's second "goal" - had that counted, I think 3 points were ours.

Instead, a deflected cross drops in the one place it was going to cause problems, right under the bar - definitely no bla,me attached to Jamie Turner on that one (and how it has been classed as an Owen Own Goal is beyond me as well, as it appeared he was simply trying to get back and head off the line, but could only send his header against the bar).

Jamie was at fault on the first, however, dropping the ball from the corner. Whilst we were a little unlucky in that it appeared to be an attempted clearance that hit Sodje and rebounded into the net, we should not have got into that position in the first place.

Sending off definitely correct - the first booking was for a tackle straight through the back of Budge & he could have no arguments on that. I honly hope the ref also notes Porter's continued rolling around on the floor after his tackle on Bentley for his second yellow - he was clearly trying to put the ref off from booking him again - something which shouldnt happen.

Still, generally looked much better tonight and lets face it, I dont recall Jamie having to make any other saves, or any other on target effort from Margate.

And no bookings either tonight, which at least is partial further good news.

I think Liam was subbed rather than Che as he seemed to have been limping for a period before he went off.

Agree with most of the postings i think a draw would have been a fair result, Chris Giles man of the match for me, Pennock brought a lot of calm to the defence talking all the time, Ben White also had a good game, agree about the left flank Skins and Jacko need to start linking like last year, we still need an out and out striker we are to inexperienced upfront Chris Giles may be the answer, Mark Bentley also stood out tonight, well onto Saturday a must win game.

Benno down the middle and Tostel on the right and I think that we might have created a bit more tonight.

We didn't deserve to lose, but then again didn't do enough in the last third again to suggest that we would win.

If we play the beast we must also play with a winger who can put a decent ball in the box. Benno's a great player but on the numerous occassions he got behind the full back , he didn't deliver a telling cross. Stick him down the middle, and let Tostel supply the crosses. Otherwise drop the Beast and start with Budgie.

must agree with other comments, Giles , Pennock and White all look great players, but if we don't start scoring goals when it matters, we won't be seeing them at Stonebridge Road next season !

Agree with u there Wobbly...We need to play our best players and after every game, every oppositions messageboard seems to comment on what a good player Tostao is. They know it, we know it so lets get him in the side regardless of the cold weather, wet pitch etc etc. We need to create chances and we need to get the ball on the Beasts head. Bentley is a great play but he can do equally well in the middle of the park. Id keep that defence in place, i wouldnt have Lee back in the team and id have Duku replace Wilkins when fit. No place for Jimmy Strouts either in my side. Jamies had his run but we need Paul back in goal. He would never had fumbled that 1st goal.

Paul Wilkerson needs to be back as soon as possible, ie Stevenage! Tostao needs to get more than 30minutes on the pitch, maybe a start and have bentley chargind through the middle (joint player of the season with Wilkerson) We need Wilko and Toastao in this side, i couldnt see Wilko every dropping that corner, in 100 attempts maybe twice! The team played well the signings were all good and we were the unluckiest team tonight, but we still didnt create a mass of chances and the crowd were not happy!!! If we are playing Benno and Beast we need Tosato for supply!! Wrong substitution last night with Evans but hey we'll live with it!

Up the Fleet.

I totally agree. Other than their goals, Jamie didn't have a lot to do last night. But I dont remember their keeper having much to do either.

We defended well and battled hard in midfield but we had little creative movement in the middle.

We need Tostoa, even if it is for the last 25 minutes, his creative play is the best we have, and we need goals.

The trouble is, this has happened in many games this season, yet every time the opposition takes their chances - something that we can't do. And yes, I agree with others that Giles looks our most dangerous striker.

At the end of the day, it was admittedly a reasonable performance, but we only really created one real chance at 2-1 down (i.e. Giles' effort that Smith saved brilliantly), and the excellent Margate defence coped with most of the stuff we threw at them.

As for the new players, Pennock looked impressive (Andy must have faith in him, having given him the captain's armband on his debut after Jacko's injury), but Ben White, although he was reasonable, hit wasteful long shots over the bar on three occasions. A bit too early to judge Dwayne Plummer though.

5-3-2 still seems the wrong formation for me, for it means that Jacko has to play too centrally and Tostao doesn't even get a look in.

Hard to comment on our disallowed goal from my position behind the goal, but the fact is that it wasn't allowed, and now the Stevenage game looks even more crucial - a defeat and we'll slip into the relegation zone for the first time.

P.S. How bad is Jacko's injury? (Hopefully not too serious).

He was under pressure from Beard who, I noticed from the New Year game, tends to stand so close to the keeper he might as well be standing on his toes. Turner looked like he was trying to get round Beard (push him over even!) and dropped the ball. Pennock said on the radio this morning that he thought the ref might have given obstruction on the keeper. As if, with our luck.
