Kentish Tn v Cheshunt Rs - the other point of view

Recommended Posts

Horace - Thanks for scanning in and posting that report, what paper is it from. This was our version of events which was pretty tame considering two goals were criminally offside due to a certain linesman:

Saturday 6 October

Spartan South Midlands Football League Division One

Kentish Town 2 Cheshunt Reserves 4

Town welcomed Cheshunt Reserves to the Copthall Stadium who play in Division 1 of the SSML due to their first team playing at step three level of the football pyramid and were totally out played in the first period by a young team with a lot of height that Town struggled to cope with. As early as the third minute the visitors found the back of the net when a deep cross sailed over the Town defenders to the back post where Shane Williams headed home a powerful header to give stand in keeper Darren Cox no chance.

This rocked the home side who were struggling to find their touch with some wasteful passing and lack lustre attacking. Town fell further behind in the 25th minute when Jimmy Martin ran from the midfield unmarked to beat the offside trap and slot home past the stranded keeper, Town's appeals for offside fell on deaf ears with two Cheshunt players standing in offside positions but were adjudged not to be interfering with play. Town were left further frustrated when again the linesman failed to raise his flag when Liam Farrell picked up the ball at least a yard offside and was allowed to run on to fire Chesham's third in the 31st minute. The Referee Mr Bradbury had to have a stern word to calm tempers on a frustrated Town bench. Town settled down and went in search of a goal that would give them a way back into the game and received a boost in first half injury time when a good cross from the right found David Dawson unmarked in the Cheshunt box to head home to give the home side some hope for the second period.

The prolific Lee Scott, out of the team since January, entered the fray for Town who started the second half in search of

a way to get back into the game and had a few half chances before getting hit on the counter attack on 61 minutes,

Cheshunt's Liam Farrell caught out the back line and ran in on goal to put the visitors 4-1 ahead all but killing the game

off for Town. To their great credit Town kept up the pressure but all to no avail and were only rewarded for their efforts in the 89th minute when Ossie Barkat fired home from distance after the visitors failed to clear.

Town Team: Cox, Barkat, S Nicolaou, R Quattromini, T McMullen, Kanaris, Zanre, Dawson, A Nicolaou, Donoghue, Awia'Osagie. Subs: Cole, Scott, Fofana, B McMullen, Dowsett

Ah, I didn't realise we were talking about Liam Farrell. Given that kid's speed, I would confidently say that he must have been onside without even being there!

As for Jamie Slabber, if anyone does find out where he is, his dad owes me a favour as I gave him my spare ticket for the Stevenage v Spurs friendly a couple of years ago when Jamie forgot to leave him one on the gate!

I am sorry Rhodes, your idea of offside is totally different to the normal rules of football.

No way were any of the. Ambers goals offside.

The discraceful scenes that followed two of the goalswere embarassing.

Here is a qoute from the KT matchday programme.

" Our players have been instucted to respect

Mr Bradbury's ( referee) decisions at all times and make his job as easy as possible, any not doing so will be harshly dealt with by the Club"

It is a shame that KT players and management feel the need to act in this way.

It was a good game but sorry for KT, they came up against a better team on the day.

Why fabricate a match report, try to be more honest.

Scaff - You were obviously at the proceedings last Saturday along with Officer Dibble who for your information didn't mention anything about 'disgraceful scenes' following two of Cheshunt's goals which I still maintain were a mile offside. It wasn't the Referee My Bradbury we had a problem with but the linesman Mr 'petethegreek' Panayiotou who we have crossed paths with previously at the Market Road Astroturf in Islington. I have not denied we were beaten by a better team on the day, indeed I was very impressed by Cheshunt who will be thereabouts come April.

Scaff - Just to say that you were correct with your quote from our programme notes last Saturday (see below) and the players who were booked have indeed received slaps on the wrist from the Club:

SATURDAY 6th OCTOBER 2007 3.00pm Issue 3 of 2007/2008

KENTISH TOWN v CHESHUNT RESERVES

(Molten Spartan South Midlands League Division 1)

Today, it is our great pleasure to welcome the players, officials and supporters of Cheshunt Football Club’s Reserve Team to our new home for the afternoon. The same sentiments are, of course, extended to Match Referee Mr John Bradbury from Welwyn Garden City and his two Assistants, Mr Peter Panayiotou from Haringey and Mr Peter Jago from Muswell Hill, whatever the outcome of the contest we hope that they enjoy their brief stay with us and have a safe journey home. Our players will have been instructed to respect Mr Bradbury’s decisions at all times and make his job as easy as possible, any not doing so will be harshly dealt with by the Club.

We are still feeling the effects of Wednesday evening’s disappointing Challenge Trophy 1st Round defeat to Langford here when our Premier Division visitors equalised some six minutes into injury time and went on to win the tie 3-1 after extra time. The encounter was not a classic by any means however we matched our opponents blow for blow and this bodes well for next season when we hope to gain our revenge in the Premier Division. Unfortunately the game was marred by the home dressing room being broken into during the first period and the players who had belongings stolen deserve huge credit for going back out and out playing Langford for long periods.

Town hope to welcome the prolific Lee Scott back into the fold this afternoon to line up alongside man of the moment Jonathan Donoghue who has netted five times for us in the last two league fixtures at Haringey Borough and Winslow United. Jonathan is a mountain of a man and is made to partner Lee up front, Cheshunt Reserves won’t be best pleased when they read these programme notes prior to the proceedings however they come here with a fine away record having lost just once on the road at top of the table Bedford. We are very honoured to host Cheshunt Reserves today who have a rich history that can be read in this programme and their first team currently ply their trade at the heady heights of the British Gas Business Southern Premier Division just below Conference South standard.

Everyone at Kentish Town, from the Chairman to the tea lady, strongly believe that our Club are going places however we want to go about things in the right way with exciting football on the field of play and good hospitality off it. We therefore hope that everyone present this afternoon will go home satisfied and with a smile on their face.

Lovely write-up regarding the forwards but KT's problem is not scoring goals but stopping them going in! Average 2 a game!
P9 F18 A18 doesn't read good!
