Brief report from DFC web-site.

"Dorking picked up their first point for a while with a competitive 0-0 draw against second from bottom Sandhurst. An even first half saw Chicks have a header hit the bar and have a shot cleared off the line, before Sandhurst had a player sent off before half time. Sandhurst started the second half strongly, but it was Chicks who dominated the last 20 mins as a succession of chances came their way as Fennessey, Augustine, Nigel Webb and Tom Ahmed all went close, but Dorking had to settle for a point."

Just for you, young Che !

Dorking 0 Sandhurst Town 0

An eventful game at Meadowbank saw Dorking pick up their first point for a while at home to fellow strugglers Sandhurst Town, who sat in second from bottom place in the league going into the game. The match swung between the sides during the match, but ultimately Dorking manager Tony Webb will rue some missed chances in the final stages as the visitors, down to 10 men, tired, Dorking perhaps passing by a good opportunity to pick up all three points.

Dorking had been without a game for three weeks following the postponement of the matches against Reading Town at Meadowbank and away at Egham Town both for waterlogged pitches. Chicks went into this game without captain Herve King, suspended for this match, and Adam Pero who missed the game following family illness. While missing the influence of King in the centre of midfield, Dorking looked dangerous in attack with Terry Fennessey (rejoining the club from Whyteleafe), Tom Ahmed, and Steve Augustine combining well throughout the game, especially in the last half hour of the match when Dorking were on top.

Dorking's best spells were in the first and last 20 minutes of the match, Sandhurst were on top either side of the interval as both sides sought a win from the match that would enhance their respective positions, a win for Dorking would have seen the team placed only one point behind Sandhurst, while a win for the visitors would have stretched the gap over Chicks to 7 points at the bottom.

Dorking started the better, Dorking's Tom Ahmed almost putting Chicks ahead on 10 minutes, the keeper beaten but a Sandhurst defender just managing to clear the ball from the line. Sandhurst though had strong claims for a penalty turned down shortly afterwards as a striker surged into the Dorking box, seemiingly with his shirt being pulled, but the referee looked to the play the advantage and Chicks experienced keeper Chris Roberts saved the strikers close range shot with his legs.

Midway through the half Dorking hit the bar from a corner., a Dorkng head crashing the ball on to the woodwork in a crowd of players That escape seemed to galvanise the visitors into action and it was they who finsihed the half the stronger, despite the sending off one of their players on 43 minutes for a second bookable offence

It was Sandhurst who picked up as they left off early in the second half, but Roberts was not really threatened other than a snap shot on 50 minutes that sailed just wide of the post. Down to ten men, Sandhurst understandably tired as the game went on, and Dorking now looked the more likely to win the game. A succession of chances presented themselves to the home team in the closing stages, Fennessey driving inches wide, Ahmed having a couple of half chances which did not hit the target, while second half sub Nigel Webb also went close. A golden chance was then miseed by Chicks with 7 ,minutes to go, the keeper saving from ex MK Dons player Tom Ahmed, the ball falling inviltingly to a Dorking midfielder supporting the attack, but he shot wide with the goal at his mercy.

The stalemate perhaps was not ideal to both teams, but for Dorking it provides a stepping stone for improved results going into the Christmas Combined Counties Premier League fixtures. On Saturday 22 December, Dorking make the short trip to Epsom & Ewell, who play at Banstead FC's Merland Rise ground in a 3pm kick off On Boxing Day, Bookham entertain Dorking at Meadowbank in a 11-30 kick off before Chertsey Town travel to Dorking to play Chicks on Saturday 29 December, the game kicking off at 3pm.

so not only did Dorking have to rebuild a squad at the start of this season they have had to change it wholesale four months later, and a bit in between.

Difficult times.....

Only partly read the thread, I dont know who Dodge Bond is so cant really comment on what he's saying or were he's getting his info from.

Bookham have stated in the press that they would not go behind Dorking's back to take the lease on and have not approached the council

As to the amount the rent is,your right we dont know what the cost would be and if it is the figure you've quoted then I am sure we could cover that (just)

ps. lend us a tenner wink

Do I sense someone trying to get Bookham and DFC at each others throats ?

It'll never happen. I think I can say, hand on heart, we all get on well together.
