A big shame he hasn't had the chance to fight to get back into regular first team action after showing so much loyalty during his long term injury. Good luck wherever you ply your trade Smithy and I will never forget those four goals against Concord.

Great shame that Smudger has left.

He spent over a year going through a lot in a fight to get his fitness back.

Not sure if he will play for anyone else or if the injury has prevented him signing for Town or anyone else.

A good servent yes but not one to take us forward. I think its a good first team decision to let him go but as a clubman he could have been a fine reserve team captain bringing on and also protecting the younger boys.

 

Unless he was'nt fit enough to play anymore or he was only interested in first team footy alone.

Very sorry to see Smudger go, but I wish hin the very best wherever he goes. I think he would have remained an excellent player for us.

 

Strangely my main memory of him is not the four goals (mainly because I wasn't there) but his first game away to Sawbo, I believe. I was, as they say, most impressed.

I can see why the club have let him go because his body and chin are now to big for his legs so his knee is likely to give way at anytime
