Sent to all clubs this afternoon

Dear Colleague,

The weather up to yesterday (Wednesday) has been pretty poor. We had a number of matches postponed on Tuesday night and grounds are either very wet or in some cases waterlogged. We have an amber warning of severe winds in our area all through Friday together with rain. The Saturday forecast is better but does include rain and breezy conditions The League is always mindful of trying to prevent situations which could affect the health, safety and welfare, of players, club officials and match officials.

Given the potentially dangerous conditions on Friday, which could result in structural damage to buildings, felling of trees and possible disruption to transport and possible loss of power supplies, we have decided that the home club can make the decision on the fitness of their ground for the Saturday match from 5pm on Friday. This will mean that ground inspections by a referee will not be necessary for this Saturday.

According to most forecasts the severe winds should be decreasing late Friday afternoon and all of us will then have a better idea as to the state of the home ground and whether any other issues need consideration, such as damage to clubhouses, problems with travelling or problems with power supplies.

The home club in making their decision must speak to the away club and the match officials to find out whether there are any issues preventing them from getting to the home ground on match-day if the ground is fit for play.

If the home club decide the match cannot be played due to ground conditions or other factors, they must contact Karen Browne, Fixture Secretary and Peter Clayton for Premier division matches and Chris Hartley for division 1 and Division 2 matches.

There are a few matches being played on artificial surfaces and we would expect that in these cases the ground would be fit to play. However, they may be other issues as listed above which would prevent the match being played.

We are trying to take sensible steps to try to ensure as many matches as possible can be played and we hope that the forecast turns out to be not as bad as it looks and that we can enjoy our football on Saturday.

If you have any questions on the above, please contact Tony Weight, Vice-Chairman

None of those people would give a shit about SSMFL games.

it’s a sensible and good decision. The league have listened to previous postponement process challenges from clubs and acted on it recently.

That’s your problem you assume far too much.

Why would the SSMFL committee set rules for those leagues?

Tring called off at 2.15, what a joke, everyone knew it would be with more rain expected and lo and behold. I've got covid so wasn't affected personally but very annoying for everyone who went.
