Ryman League - Canvey Island 3 Hornchurch 2

.and it all started so well.

Canvey kept us in our own half for much of the early part of the first half but we coped well. Ollie Berquez threatened occasionally and Lee Boylan spooned a good chance over the bar. We stepped up our game and a Jon Keeling run and shot in the 24th minute was well held by Danny Potter in the Canvey goal. Two minutes later Andy Douglas was presented with a golden opportunity when a Keeling cross found him unmarked at the far post, but his shot went just over the bar. A couple of minutes before half time Keeling again caused problems down the right and his pass found Gavin McGowan who scuffed a shot across goal and wide with Andy Douglas running in. We took the lead right on half time when Andy Douglas turned on the edge of the area, floated a ball to the far post which was headed off the line but went in off Andrew Martin.

An early chance three minutes into the second half came for Jon Keeling when he cut into the penalty area and shot across goal, again with the frustrated Andy Douglas just not close enough to get a touch. Berquez shot just wide a minute later and Danny Gay had to get down low to save a McGhee header from a Berquez cross in the 55th minute. Two minutes later we went further ahead. A Jon Keeling ball found Gavin McGowan on the edge of the area who took a couple of strides and powered the ball past Potter. So, we were looking good for a famous victory. That is, until the last 15 minutes when the game turned around dramatically. It did so with a penalty for Canvey after Boylan was upended in the area, which he duly despatched although Gay wasn't far away from it. Two minutes later Canvey were level, Boylan hitting a sweet shot from 18 yards which went like a bullet. The winning goal came in the dying minutes and from another penalty after Junior McDougal (I think) was brought down by Jamie Southon. Boylan stepped up again and completed his hat-trick with a thunderous strike.

Line-up:- Gay, Gooding, Rowland, Southon, John, Williams, Keeling, McGowan, A Martin, Douglas (R Martin 72), J Martin. Subs not used:- Sorhaindo, Kerrigan, Brayley, Abbott.

It was Peter Smith that was upended for the second penalty.

It was a cheating referee who awarded it! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

So you had a good view of it from 100 yards away did you?????
It was a clear penalty it was a clumsy challenge from one of your players.

You really are a plonker aren't you!
I was at that end where Canvey's goals were scored....and had a perfectly clear view of the penalties.

And I would also like to point out that I have never before seen an attacker deliberately control a ball with his hand and then win a penalty for it!

Never mind...season's over now!

Mal, mal, mal....it is no use arguing with a pikey. They see things that no other human can see....Example, caravan = house. They think it is quite aceptable to wheel away their homes. Also, they see people that aren't really there...A 600 home support = well over a 1,000 (altho I put this down to a lack of education, due of course to the fact they have no fixed abode).

Anyway...they're gone to the Conference. Just sit back and watch them next season...their supporters will desert them as their season fades into relegation and you will meet them the season after next...
