Huge shock to see this, i too remember him from Question of sport, original captain with Bill Beaumont.

Agree about the shock of Emlyn's untimely death - but weren't the original QoS captains Henry Cooper and that Welsh rugby bloke (Cliff Morgan?)?

David Coleman certainly took the helm for a while - but I think David Vine may have started it all off.

Whatever, the show was at it's peak for entertainment value when Hughsie was on it.

Lilian Board won a silver medal at the '68 Olympics in Mexico. The first QoS was on 5/1/1970. She must have died not long after that.

I didn't realise he was ill. A great footballer and superb on Question of Sport.

He was always very popular -even if you didn't support liverpool.saw him at west ham a few times helping liverpool turn us over. I last saw him play at Fulham for swansea 1984ish and remember leroy rosenior running him ragged in a 5-0 defeat he quit soon after that. It was a pleasure watching him lift the european cup.
